Hi, ive been browsing the forums for a while now and have seen everyones expertise at computers and was wondering what you all thought of my gaming rig being built

amd 3500+
ecs k8t890a mobo pc3200
250 gig maxtor hd
raidmas x1 case

thats what i have now
but i still need
dvd drive
video card
ram
monitor

and i have about $500 with
any suggestions?

There's no good gaming pc for about 500 bucks but you can build a regular home computer for 500 dollars.

You don't have enough money for a good gaming computer. The cheapest decent video card will run you $150ish (6600gt), the RAM will run you probably another $125 (if you get Corsair Value Select, 1 gig), the monitor will definitely run you a couple hundred dollars.

This is why you get the total amount of money you're going to need before you buy a single part. You don't have enough money left to get a good gaming computer.

Just a few suggestions (links are just for examples)

DVD-Drive:

May I recommend a Lite-On DVD-Drive? I usually use Sony, but I chose Lite-On this time around for my home system. I'm glad I did. Very good quality DVD-Drive, for a minimal amount. Fantastic value, and it will help save more for your video card and other components.

RAM:

I've been hearing a lot of good things about Corsair's value ram series. I use the high end XMS kit myself (2gb), and have really been impressed with its performance.

Video card:

Lot's of choices here. What kind of work will you be doing with your PC? A good place to start might be the Nvidia 6600 series.

I'd go:

$100 for 1gb value ram (find out which goes best with mobo)
$200 for refurb crt Azatek
$200 for vid card

hrmmm...or knock of $50 from vid card/monitor for a dvd burner

okay but im buying from newegg and i just went and got everything i needed for under 500

Mother of pearl, congratulations. That's a tight fit.

I've never heard of that monitor maker before, but CRT is mature, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Welcome to AT.

 on the X800GTO2. I hope you get a good overclock out of it! 🙂

The only thing I would be concerned about is possibly the PSU in your case.
