Well I had to order a bunch of crap today at the Egg for some customers anyway so I figured I'd sneak a few extra packages in for me :D

Here is the basic configuration:

Antec P180
PC Power/Cooling 510W-SLI
ASUS A8N-E
AMD Athlon X2 4400+
1GB (2x512) Patriot PC4800
250GB Seagate 7200.8
NEC 3540A
BFG 7800GT OC

I did purchase the retail boxed 4400+ but I'll be using my trusty Swiftech MCX6400-V with a high-output Panaflo 80mm for cooling. Or maybe the Delta SHE if things get rough :D

Shall the X2 live up to the hype? I shall see :p

Edit: had to add the graphics card :D

Um because the P180 looks cool?

No, actually, because of the cable management.

Noise isn't a concern for any of the rigs I build. I'm used to loud machines :D

But your pretty much negating the purpose of the p180, to create a quiet pc.

Not really. My purpose with the P180 is to have a nice clean layout inside and look nice outside as well. Noise is not a major concern for me :)

Is the PCP&C loud? I never knew that....
I wouldn't get the A8N-E btw. The fan on the northbridge might die out on ya, the board doesn't overclock well, and there's no firewire. Try the ABIT AN8 Ultra (v2.0 has passive cooling), or EPoX 9NPA+Ultra....OR the DFI Lanparty Ultra-D if you're a mad overclocker.

Btw, Pabster I know you're coming from the intel side but uh... PC4800 Ram won't make a difference on A64.... JUst get ValueSelect PC3200's and you'll be fine. You'll suffer a 1-2% performance hit over LL ram, but who cares? When overclocking, use a divider.

That power supply is also overkill for your system. The A8N-E won't overclock that well so why do you need a superexpensive power supply? Might as well get an OCZ Modstream 450W.

And what's your graphics card?

Erm...if you haven't ordered that yet, might I suggest the Seasonic S-12 600W?

And good luck with the endeavor, I wanna see OC results! :D

It isn't that loud. I suppose it is all relative to how loud the other parts of your system are. I have 3 of these supplies on other rigs and they don't bother me a bit.

Well I can always swap out the mobo can't I :D

I do have a DFi LanParty NF4 laying around as well. And the Epox is certainly possible if the ASUS doesn't make the cut.

I know I could just use VS but I may be using these for another machine a bit later on as well ...

Eck. No! I hate OCZ. Wouldn't spend a penny on that crap. (IMHO, of course.) The PC P&C are awesome supplies (I have several). The voltage regulation is as good as it gets and I've never had one fail.

Darn I forgot to add that - I have a BFG 7800GT coming next week for it :D

1. Get a Seasonic S-12 600W. They are the parent company behind PCP&C and are much more silent and efficient.
2. I would've suggest 2GB Value RAM rather than 1GB of that PDP stuff.
3. All that and JUST a 7800GT? You gotta go all the way man!! :)

Compared to PCP&C, OCZ does sound like crap. But then again...haha... look at the price :).

If I had a penny for all the PSU recommendations I'd be a millionaire :p

I know the PC P/C is a pricey unit. But price isn't really my major concern :D

I do have 2 1GB sticks of cheap value RAM laying here also. Can always swap them around and see what clocks better and what not.

Nah. I'm not even a big gamer. But the Dell deal (~335) was too good to pass up. Otherwise I probably would have went with a 6600GT, honestly.

I like your choices! I don't know why everyone still bashes the A8N series boards as bad overclockers, I got one of the very first deluxes back in early Dec 04 and it overclocks like a beast and has been rock solid.

The only overclocking problem they have (except the Premium) is you can't overclock ram past 245mhz DDR490 at 1T, you have to drop to 2T. But high ramspeed provides very little performance on A64's anyway.

As others have said ditch the PC4400 ram, it's really overkill for A64's and especially on this board because of the 1T issue.

*edit*

And I've never had a problem with the chipset fan, mines not loud and its been running 24/7 for eight months. Guess I got a good one.

Oh! WELCOME TO THE DARDSIDE!:)
