I was literally crying laughing to him and Artie bantering on the show this morning. He is a brilliant addition. I hope he makes frequent visits to the studio even after he leaves at the end of the week. I was especially impressed with his sense of humor after they got him all lathered up with the fake Ahhhhnold caller yesterday - I could understand his being really pissed at that.

I've been downloading the episodes then burning it onto my CDRW to listen in my car... which takes awhile, because my car is a normal CD player and not an mp3 player. But i've been seriously thinking on picking up Sirius just for Stern, it's soooo funny now.

Agreed. Takei is a great addition and seems to fit right in. They need to do what they can to make him a permanent addition to the show.

If anybody knows an email address to send my comments, let me know! I didn't know Takei was just temporary, but if he is, they really need to make him permanent.

Get a cheapie MP3 player and an FM modulator. I have an iPod Shuffle that I use for more or less just this purpose.

They plan to keep him on permanently as show announcer, but he will only be in the studio live this week.

I also sent a nice comment to GT via his website - I really do admire his wit and his sense of humor on the show. A person with a thin skin could never deal with being in that studio, and he really seems in his element. I LOVE it!

What a random idea. Of all the people, I wonder why they picked him? Seems like a great addition though.

They had been using his voice for bits for quite some time. IIRC it all started when he appeared on the show back in 1996 or so - Billy West (a former Stern show cast member) did a hilarious impression of him. He was revived on the show when Kidd Chris (a sometime contributor) made a funny call to him pretending to be Ricardo Montalban. The best stuff, though, came more recently, when cast member Richard Christy started editing Takei's audiobooks to make phony phone calls and bits with quotes like "my neighbor in Denver is a lengthy black teenager," and "I get a strong smell from my wang."

DonVito - I am not a regular Stern listener so I really appreciate that detailed recap. Thanks again, buddy.

Some of the best stuff, FYI, came when William Shatner appeared on the show in 2004 and 2005 - they barraged him with about 100 clips of Takei saying things like "William Shatner has treats for the children," and "I lowered my buttocks onto Ricardo Montalban's big fat mahogany-colored wang."

Takei himself had a stellar appearance in Nov 04, when he came onto the show to talk about coming out of the closet - I think someone posted a link to an MP3 of the interview in the thread about Stern's first day on Sirius. It's really hilarious and worth listening to.

EDIT: Here is the link to the Takei interview.

i just got to the part where Stern revealed it was an Ahnuld impersonator.
Takei: [hearty laugh] "I'm so wonderfully gullible" [hearty laugh]
what a great guy.

wait, it just got better. even after the reveal, he jokingly played along (but still really thought it was Ahnuld).
[hearty laugh]"I must admit i'm not really George Takei"[hearty laugh]
Stern: "we should give our Arnold impersonator a plug"
Takei: "OH YOU'RE KIDDING! he really was an impersonator??"
Everyone: "yes!"
Takei" "Oh my lord!" [hearty laugh]

HIRE THAT MAN!
