perfect case of OCD.

Here's a downer: when you wash yourself with anti-bacterial soap, do you scrub each spot for at least two full minutes?

If not, you have officially wasted time and money. Congrats!

Oh, actually you still wasted time and money - anti-bacterial soap accomplishes NOTHING that regular soap doesn't do in the first place. No point killing what's already being washed down the drain anyway. What do you think they're going to do: group up, make a revenge-based drain-dwelling society, and crawl up, raise an army, and hunt you down while you slumber?

😛

Yeah I usually let it soak in for a while, during which time I start on another body part. I found that before I started using the multiple step process, halfway through the day I would start to stink, so I kept adding things until I could have a day where I didn't stink until late at night.

I've started using shampoo on my face rather than soap. It keeps my goatee softer. Here's my new found soap joy. I got it for $1 at the local natural foods store, and it smells pretty good. My favorite is Grandpa's Pine Tar soap, but it's a little spendy for routine use.

Yeah, I like Grandpa's Pine Tar too. I buy a bar every once in a while and use it as soap and shampoo until it runs out.

I'm in the opposite direction - I wash myself with literally 4 different types of soaps during a shower, in addition to the shampoo. I like feeling clean.

Face, neck, ears: facial soap
Shoulders, neck again, underarms, belly, crotch: regular soap (non-anti-bacterial).
Crotch, ass, feet: soap with antibacterial agent
Crotch, ass, feet again: antifungal soap, with a few squirts of tilex in the bottle to increase the anti-fungal properties. I use a washcloth at this point to really give it a good scrub.
hair: shampoo (I avoid shampoo on the weekends to rebuild the oil levels but still do the rest)

Afterwords I dry off with the towel, then stand in front of a fan for about 10 minutes to make sure I'm completely dry. As a follow up, I squirt listerine mouthwash on my feet to further inhibit any chance of fungus forming. Once completely dry, I use the alcohol based hand sanitizer (Purell), mixed with a small amount of rubbing alcohol, on my arse. After brushing, flossing, I gargle first with hydrogen peroxide (small amount), then follow up with listerine.
if you are spraying tilex on your bunghole you might have a mental disorder

If Juddog is serious, I agree. It's actually hazardous to use anti-bacterial cleaning agents so often - your immune system benefits from some exposure to bacteria.

I get plenty of exposure to bacteria, trust me. I handle dirty, grubby, computer parts at work every day. You wouldn't believe some of the nasty sh!t I've come across; everything from laptops coated in dog hair (wtf people let their cat / dog sleep on their laptop keyboard?) to a ton of dead skin / dandruff (literally shake the laptop while upside down and watching dandruff fall out like snow).

Plus they're shipped in from all over the country, so I'm constantly exposed to stuff that ordinarily wouldn't be present in my geographical location.

My showering my seem OCD, but I only developed the routine over the course of a few years, trying just about everything. Like the OP, for a period of a few weeks, I tried just the very basic level of washing, but it just didn't work for me. I also avoided antibacterial soaps and such for a long time, then noticed that I would get a stink on my body that just didn't seem to go away.

Same goes for my feet and foot fungus; while at the one gym I had a membership to, I somehow got a nasty athlete's foot from the locker room that literally stuck around on my body for about 3 years. I tried going through the entire gamut of different cremes, sprays, etc. from the local walgreens before getting something from the doctor, and even then, it was extremely hard to get to go away.

That's when I started on the heavy foot washing regiment; I started off by using bleach in the shower, letting the water build to about 2 " before I got in, and using about a half cup of bleach per shower. I found it wasn't that effective, which is why I started squirting Tilex into the anti-fungal soap bottle, which finally has kept my feet super clean. I also use one of those pumice stones about once a week on my feet to scrub off the dead skin, in addition to the daily washing with washcloth / antifungal soap. I use the antibacterial soap to break down the layer of oil that covers my skin on my feet as a precursor step, so that the anti-fungal soap can really seep in.

Yeah it burns a little but I'm finally at the stage where I don't stink from the time I go to work, until the end of the day.

If you aren't trolling us, please speak to someone. It will benefit you. We aren't saying it to criticize you any more than we would be if we told someone who is telling us about symptoms that sound like they have a serious disease to ask a doctor about it.

Wasnt expecting to see this! Made in India? They sell for ~50c here. This particular brand has been around for a really long time (>25 years) and hasnt changed much in all these years. Doest really sell much any more though. People prefer western brands.

If you like it and looking for similar soaps to try - Medimix (has modernised and comes in different flavours now), Hamam, Mysore Sandal.

I use an Indian Ayuvedic toothpaste. That shit is awesome!

juddog I hope that's a trolling attempt.
Routines developed over the years means you detached yourself from society and slowly drifted away.

Anyway without soap there's no way I can get the smell of sweat out of my armpits.

I shower every morning before 8AM. My housemate can tell by 9:30 AM whether I used anti-perspirant or not.

Anybody claiming they don't smell is either full of shit, has very polite friends and coworkers, or has a social circle full of people with no sense of smell.

I have a coworker who does as much natural as possible, and doesn't bathe every day or use shampoo (dreds down to his waist.) He doesn't smell homeless-guy-pissed-himself strong, but it's an unpleasant muskiness.

I recall that being an adjustment when accustomed to complete soaping with every bathe (even basic veg glycerin). Anything less than essentially deoiled skin resulted in that "not so fresh feeling". But one gets over it. Ze face is easier since more used to soapless cleanser and sunblock or moisturizer, but the hair is more challenging...

Shaving your head is cheating. 😛 I'll pass on the perfumed tallow. D:

I know this post is older so you may miss this:

but you know "perfumed tallow" is a common and very original soap method, yes?
Lipids are lipids are lipids - they just come from different sources. Essentially, the very nature of all soap must come from lipids (fat), because that is what constitutes the bubbles and does what soap does (entrap and wash away).

This thread is making me curious enough to seek out some specific, more natural products, just to see if I can still feel fresh using more minimal products, and possibly even have better skin/hair in the end, hopefully smelling good (perfumed, possibly). I'd feel far more comfortably lathering up from head to toe in perfumed and rendered animal fats, as opposed to a product full of artificial products inside of plant-sourced oils (not that it's exclusive, just the common trend - even tallow-based products are chock full of odd chemicals).

I generally use soap on my genitals, butthole, and armpit. If it's just sweat on the rest of the body, you should be fine using only water.

Speaking of butthole, people do not fully wipe after taking a dump. I can smell that shit. That's why, if I can, I personally shower and wash after every shit. If I'm somewhere I can't, I'll wipe with the dry toilet paper as much as possible, then I'll wet the toilet paper to the rest of the smear (quick dash to the sink).

Try soaking your feet in a solution of saltwater every night, and try to keep your feet uncovered as much as possible, let it breath. Wean yourself off the bleach and tilex. At the gym, use flip flops if you aren't already.

I take a bath with a little of the anti bacterial dish soap. And use anti bacterial hand soap to wash with. Sorry man but it works great. Don't want that crap breeding on me. I rinse my mouth with scope too. I also use sinus rinse.

I used to get sick for weeks on end before I started doing that (when I did get sick). I seem to get sick less and catch less flu's. And if I do it doesn't last remotely as long or nearly as bad.

It's the drug companies that don't want you to use any of this anti bacterial stuff. They want you buying their stuff and all these cough syrups and anti fungals, antibiotics and crap. Think about who is really behind these campaigns and supposed studies.

I consider myself a typical, smelly man, so I still soap up every day!

That being said, I often spend nights with a particular girl from Vietnam, and she doesn't use deodorant or perfumes (she still uses light soaps though).

I love it! She has a very soft, light smell that is so different from the perfumed smells of most women I spend my time with, like my fiancee.

I guess I'm off track, but only saying that I like the idea of soap and shampoos, but not using other heavily perfumed things is fine in my opinion as long as you're not having to be too rigorous with physical exercise.

I've tried numerous things; salt water, vinegar + water, bleach + water, none seemed to work like the current combo. On a positive note, all signs of athlete's foot has gone away for about 4-5 weeks now, and my thick fungus nail have slowly been getting better (has been that way for close to 3 years).

Flip flops is definitely a good idea.

I recently started changing my shampoo usage for my head hair. Used to do it every day and I never liked how hard my hair was to control due to the dryness. Now my general weekly regiment is to give a thorough shampoo Sunday morning, skip it Monday and Tuesday, do a light surface touch-up on certain parts (mostly the top) with shampoo on Wednesday, and then I'm good through Friday. Usually I don't even shower Saturday because I rarely see people.

That said, I've considered changing my soap habits too. Generally I'll use bar soap on my body several times in a single showering, and recently I've noticed that my entire stomach, loin, and chest regions flake which results in my pants being completely covered in dead skin. I try to rinse less but I love soap.

Yep. IMHO the cleanest people Ive ever encountered are SE Asians (China, Philippines, Thai, Cambodian, etc). In my experiences, no matter what time of day it is, their ugly parts are always SQUEAKY clean. They also rinse with water after going pee or taking a dump.
