My new eVGA 8800GTS 512, a big let down!

Just got the 8800 GTS 512 (G92) card (std version) with the intent to unseat my previous 8800 GTS 640mb.
Two days of usage using the new card has been nothing but a huge disappointment.
The Crysyis fps is anything but improvement.
As a matter of fact it's became worse.
The FSx flight sim was the biggest let down.
Its FSX fps drops drastically from 20-30fps to single digit fps, using the exact same game setting.
COD4 fps is much better than the 640ms version, which is the only bright side.
The 3dmark06 score was ~ 1k gain improved from the last card or 12k vs 11k.
I guess the 1920x1200 needs huge amount of video card of memory to see any significant improvement.
The 640mb is not a heck a lot more than 512mb, why the G92 sucks so bad?
I tried the latest beta 169.44 but changed back to the signed version one.
No changes between the two version.
Basically the mark06 score on both.
What's going on?
Have I high expectations?

Question for OCers:
How high can I o/c this card?
Stock clock is 670/1944.

EDIT: A combination of things have happened since I posted....New beta driver 174.74 helps big time. Settings in the nvidia CP have been tweaked. Results...Crysis is imrpoving to 20-30fps with 2xaf in 1900x1200. FSx has ballisticed to 40-50 fps.
It's a keeper.

Why dismiss the possiblity that you got a junky card? Or something else in your computer thats messing up performance?

99% of the problems are not the hardware but rather driver issues. So when people say the card is bad I have to question your knowledge. Yes, I just pulled that statistic out of my butt but still.

Anyways upgrading from your card was not a great idea. You should have saved your money IMO and waited a few more months.

I made the same jump, from a 640mb g80 to the 512 g92 GTS and my experience was the opposite. However, I game at 1680x1050. I would first give the drivers that angry hampster linked aboved, I'm currently using 174.70 betas and got minor, yet notable, increases across the board from the 169.xx's that I was previously using. I still noticed an increase though even with the older drivers. Was your 640mb OC'd, as it sounds like you haven't OC'd the GTS yet.
These things seem to OC like mad, I run mine at 799 core, 1998 shader, 2247 memory when gaming. If the drivers and OC don't make a difference, perhaps the higher res is hitting the limit of the 256bit memory bus. Then I'd consider jumping on this, the GTX's can be had for under $300 after MIR and have the 384-bit memory, which is known to do better at higher resolutions.
Also, to be safe when updating the drivers, go thru the whole safe-mode/driver cleaner process.

I've posted similar before, that if you were overclocking your 640MB GTS over ~600MHz you probably wouldn't see much improvement with a G92 GT/GTS. The 9800GTX may be a different story though, as it'll have faster RAM to alleviate one of the G92's bottlenecks, memory bandwidth. Unlike G92, older G80s get an excellent return on core overclocks and the GTS was clearly underclocked from the start so that it wouldn't bench so similar to the GTX.

i have the same card but i jumped from a 7900 GTX to this and i could see greater improvement than you did due to much higher difference in performance.

I'll admit, that i ain't the most knowledgeable person when it comes to PC's,far from it,but i'm still well above quite a few people, who consider say,a 1GB 8500GT better than a 256MB HD 3850,it is possible that it is a driver issue, ain't denying that.

1920X1200? Are you using AA & AF? I mean at that resolution I would expect the memory bus width would be holding the card back at this point, and sames the 640 had a higher bus width its not surprising your not seeing an improvement. Also 169.44 is not latest beta :<

you would think that the fact that the cards are marketed under the EXACT SAME NAME Would have clued you in to the fact that their performance is similar... This isn't a new card generation, this is a process improvement to make them cheaper to produce and clock slightly better. They happen to perform slightly faster. But they are mainly here to cut the price, the price is almost half what it used to cost and the power and heat are lower. So there is hardly room to complain. Unless you somehow thought that it will be a huge giant upgrade.

For someone like me with a 200$ 7900GS from a year a half ago this is a great upgrade. (while the G80 was far too expensive)

mine does 740/1800/1035 - i flashed it to the Asus EN8800/TOP speed, havent tried to push higher...but might do 800ish on the core.
Definitly very satisfied with this card. 3mark06 15000ish..so really nothing to complain. And this card certainly does not suck since its even faster than the GTX in resolutions under 1900+. I think its a very good and solid card actually.

More info...
This card overclocks like mad, so far 750/1000 and 3dmark06 is near 13k.
It runs much cooler my previous 640mb by at least 10c with only 50% fan speed.
Most importantly...dollar wise
Over a year ago I paid $300 for the 640mb version.
This one I paid $195 (AR plus I sold the game Crysis that came with it for $25) and get at least 30% improvement.
Guys and gals...
I'm happy!!!!
