I love these price wars around the KC area lately. My contract was up on the 4th of this month and I decided to upgrade to the Elite DSL package. I'm now paying $2 less than I was before and I am getting sustained 5,000/590kbps transfer rates for $28 a month. Not too shabby IMO.

great price 🙂

i hated being on dialup for a year and a half after college. never again

Wish there was more competition in my area. Paying $40/mo for 3Mbps/300kbps cable. DSL prices aren't too far from that either.

It's nice to see that broadband is going down in price. I remember cable costing me quite a bit a long time ago when it was initially introduced.

I have SBC/Yahoo for $15 a month I'm getting 2500/370 actual kbps It's advertised 3000 kbps SF Bay Area

whee 512/512 ftw! Provided by the the company my father works for. Overpriced and super slow! But its free...

Overpriced, but free? Isn't that kinda a contradiction? Oh, and don't diss 512/512, I get around 300/300 with my SBC yahoo DSL. I live way too far away from the CO 🙁

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAha

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHa

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAah

omgosh. I hate paying what is it... $24.99 + $13.16 for fvckin DSL + phone and only downloading at 3mbps, sharing with 3 other roommates..

Oh god. I really love my new apartment though.. Comcast 6mbps shared with 2 ppl... muhahaha, and I was downloading at a SUSTAINED 780 KB/sec... pretty good =)

DSLreports:

Your download speed : 7107 kbps or 888.4 KB/sec.
Your upload speed : 346 kbps or 43.3 KB/sec.

Oh man. DSL can blow me...

DSL in New Zealand sucks (uptake rate about 23rd out of the 25 OECD countries IIRC). I pay $50/month for 256/128k with a 20gb cap. The fastest broadband available in the country is 3.5mb and it's ridiculously expensive (3.5mb/512kb 40gb cap for $110 a month). Sadly 60gb is the highest cap available on high speed plans.

Thankfully the local loop will be unbundled very soon so broadband should improve dramatically in the next year or so.

I'm actually not that close to the CO, but they did install a fiber backbone to a repeater just down the street. Fun thing is they are still optimizing my connection too. Got 5mB/632kb this morning! My plan is actually for 3-6mB/384-768kb, so I'm on the high side of the advertised speeds. My plan is with SBC/ATT.

In my area, we need more competition for broadband. We have comcast for cable and sbc for dsl in this area. I'm not sure if there is any other dsl providers, but I know comcast the only one for cable. I have comcast at my house, it about $42 a month (6mbits down/384kbits up). My dad has sbc dsl for like $15 a month for a year, not sure what it goes up to after that. But they have the 1.5mbits down/i think 256kbits up or 128kbits up.

Damn, wish we had better internet service around here. The best we can get is 768/256 wireless internet. So I get slow dsl speeds with dial-up latency. Huzzah!

I wish the cable companies around here would put up more of a fight. Even the 6month promotional deal is $29.99/month, and VOIP is simply too expensive at $29.99-$39.99/month. I get basic phone service for like $23 and Internet for $28 after all the taxes and such, but the services are both faster and more reliable around here (KC area). Also, those rates are locked in for a whole year, whereas the cable Internet for $30/month goes to $43/month after the promotional 6month period. Thankfully I've never had trouble re-rating with SBC, provided I'm out of my 1-year contract period anyway 🙂.
