Here's the revised list, with a couple of questions.

See my other thread for the previous system

What I've already got:

SB Live 5.1 XGamer
Toshiba 16x DVD
WD 40gig 7200 rpm hard drive
Antec sx1240 case (oh how I love this case)

What I'm now thinking of getting:

Iwill kk266-R
Athlon 1gig (possibly 1.2 or 1.33)
Leadtek Geforce2 pro, 64 meg.
Corsair, 256megs, cas2, pc133 RAM
Alpha PEP66 heat sink fan, with panaflo 60mm fan.

My major concern is the combo of the motherboard with the sound card. I'm thinking if I can't fix the problem with the pci latency patch, I'll consider the purchase of the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz.

Does this look like good RAM to buy? I can get it for ~$108, so it fits my price range pretty nicely. I'm a little confused about cas2/3, unbuffered, registered, and that sort of thing. I could definately use some advice here.

This the the RAM I was thinking of getting

Originally, I was set on getting a 1gig athlon, and clocking it to 1.4. Prices are really going down right now, so I was thinking of getting a 1.2 or 1.33 and seeing if it would clock any faster than 1.4. What has been people's experience with doing this. Oh, and what is Axia?

I changed my mind on the cooling fan. The PEP66 is almost as good as the Silverado (probably nearly as quiet with the panaflo) and I won't have to import it from Germany (who knows how long that could take). It's also cheaper.

As for the Video card.. I'm pretty well set on the Geforce 2 Pro, but I'm wondering if there are any big differences between the different manufacturers. I can get both the Leadtek and the MSI for $189 from newegg. Which would be the better card? Are there any others, comparably priced, that might be better?

Thanks
Ryan

the ram is good. cas2 is faster than 3. and i think you should get unbuffered, non-parity, non-registered.

You're buying a DDR motherboard and putting SDRAM on it? Uhh....why?

If you don't want to overclock, get Asus A7M266 mobo.
If you want to overclock, get MSI K7 Master mobo.

In both cases, get some PC2100 DDR Ram from www.crucial.com for your system.

Either will absolutely trash the speeds you'd get with that Iwill/SDRAM combo.

I didn't think that it was a DDR Motherboard. The reason I was going with PC133 was to help keep the cost down a tad.

KK266 is an SDRAM motherboard, based on the KT133A. I wouldn't spend $80 on a fan. Your not going to get much more performance out of the chip - a lot of ppl are hitting 1.5 GHz with AXIA and just $30 fans.

Yes, the PEP66 can be had for much cheaper than the Silverado. My main interest in the Silverado was it's quietness, as I'm trying to build a very quiet computer. I think the combo of the PEP66 with a Panaflo fan should be nearly as quiet. I think total cost on that setup is about $50 from Directron.

No point in the Athlon 1.2, get 1GHZ AXIA and do it up to 1.5. Get the Phillips AE if your willing, the Live! is getting old. Yes, a $8 Vocano II should be enough to get the 1GHZ AXIA to 1.5 or so. DDR if you can, it's so cheap now!

I've seen plenty of SBLives work with Athlon chipsets, I think the problem is a bit less serious now than before.. my suggestion would be to not worry..
