I got a bunch of new stuff to build a new computer, and after having such a hard time getting it all to work I have another problem....

It was running ok then I rebooted and this is what just happened and keeps happening:

1) power led keeps blinking
2) hd light doesnt blink.
3) monitor doesnt come on (the orange standby light is on but it never turns on and gives a green light)
4) it sounds like the rest of the computer is booting up normally

I tried swapping out power supplies and got the same result

please help me out.. ive had a whole day of problems with this thing and I just want to get it working...

thank you

What PSU's are you using?

Did you try a different video card/monitor?

i tried a rosewill 400w ps and another 350w ps

I dont have another video card... my 9700pro better not be busted.. its only 4 months old. and the monitor is practically new.

if it was a videocard/mon issue why would that affect the hd and power leds?

it was working fine until that last reboot....

btw i have:

lanparty ut mobo
athlon 64 3000+
3gb kingston pc2700
ati radeon 9700pro
creative audigy zs2
80gb maxtor SATA
120gb western digital ide
400w rosewill ps

Process of elimination. So your case/cpu fans are all spinning but doesn't boot, yes? Sounds like a power issue sorry to say, if that 350W isn't a quality brand then I'd go with that. Just hope it's not a motherboard issue. From experience, had a motherboard arrive DOA, LEDS and fans would spin up on power up, and that's about it.

everything should be fine. it was running just fine until my last reboot. could the mobo have taken a crap already? i just got it today... I dont believe its a power issue since 2 powersupplies both yielded the same result...

I actually have that same motherboard, good quality board. But personally I wouldn't run it on anything but a quality brand PSU. Just my 2 cents, maybe someone else has another idea about it.

Oh and how long have you been running that same exact setup?

i just put it all together today. the mobo, ram, 80gb maxtor and cpu just came in today from newegg... so i ran it for about 5 minutes before i rebooted it...

well the rosewill 400w ps is probably not the greatest, but it ran long enough to install windows and stay up for a few minutes.. then the reboot killed it... I have no idea what to do.

Yeah, PSU.

If you were able to run it longer then I would expect something else, but I'd say I'm 98% sure it's the PSU based on the fact that it's a newly built system. An Antec 350W would kick that one you have. I learned the hardway, can't skimp on the PSU if you're putting hundred dollar parts into your system.

Np, and remember, name brand.

Antec, Forton, OCZ, Enermax and Sparkle to name a few. A lower wattage one of those will be better then a 500W Rosewell or similuar brand.

That's... odd. Is it booting up into a power-saving mode, somehow? Sounds like it's in Standby mode perhaps.

What mobo is this? Additionally I'm wondering if it is showing diagnostic codes via the power LED, although I've not seen that personally before.

hey goe602... i had the same problem.. i too had the rosewill 400 watt psu.. it is a pos.. i found out that it killed my harddrive... i read on another messageboard that cheap psu can send rf signals through the rails which is deadly to the mb... i got a new mb and a fortorn bluestorm and have not had a problem since
