My new computer doesn't start...

Hello guys,

I really need some help here. I have just built my new computer. it worked fine for a couple of days, but now it just refuses to start.

Antec Sonata III case with 500w power supply
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R motherboard
Inno3D 8800GTS 320
c2d e4400 cpu
2gig kingston ddr2 ram
500g WD sata
win XP
samsung sata CD/DVD burner

What happened was that I burned a CD and closed down my computer in a normal way. When I tried to start it again nothing happens. No life/sound from the harddrive, fans, power supply etc, nothing. First I thought the power supply was broken, but it starts up manually if I connect the green wire to the black wire. So I doubt its broken. The powerswitch on the sonata case works fine, checked it with an multimeter.

I have really no idea what the problem is. Is it a broken motherboard? Broken CPU? I have the e4400 overclocked to 3Ghz, it worked fine for a couple of days as I said before.

Would a broken CPU cause the computer to be totally dead? Obviosly yes, but wouldn't the computer show some signs of life in the startup process even if the CPU is broken?

Any input is more than welcome!

What you need to do is bring it down to minimum config, ie: just the CPU, RAM, VGA installed (and obviously power sup). See what happens. If still nothing, start pulling those critical components 1 by 1 to see if the symptom changes.

I would also eliminate any overclocking settings you have.

Well, this may just be me, but when one of my computers refuses to boot up, I try pulling the power cable from the motherboard. Put it back and voila, especially since you haven't done anything suspicious. It's worth a quick shot anyway.

Thanks guys. I've tried all but replacing components. I think it's the motherboard thats broken. I guess I'll have to order another MB... :-(
