Already got a 15" Planar LCD, and some pretty good speakers. I think that's everything.

Well, I'm trying to keep the prices down, but I'll check on the Asus if it isn't TOO high...

I just need something better than what I have now, and that system kicks this one's butt. Pluss I like the greenness of it...

EDIT:
I looked at some Asus boards on Newegg just now and non of them seem to be as good for the same price. Most of them were MicroATX too, and this case only does Standard. :/ I'm not to worried about anything being "namebrand" top of te line crap, I just want it to work and work well.

Well, this is my first comp that I will build myself, so, what do you suggest I get. It looked ok, and its better than what I have now for sure.

NO, 9200SE IS THE WORST CARD IN PRODUCTION. get a 9800 pro, if you ever play games..

and DEFINATELY, do not get 1 stick of ram.. either 2 x 256mb, or 2x512 mb.. p4s really benefit from dual channel memory

yeah it just might be better than the Intel extreme grpahics thingy integrated into motherboards

iv never heard of PQI ram. get Corsair, its liek 3 bucks more

memory is beter that video card isnt. its a slowed down version and its not really a 9800pro. it only has a 28bit interface whereas the real ones have 256bit. You cna buy that and its alright.

If you cna go any higher I think a 9600xt would be better or about the same for a bit cheaper

Thats a big jump from like $45 to $129 for the Video Card, but I guess I must do it. Anything else that I really HAVE to change?

This is where you're getting screwed.

$130 for an HD and two Optical Drives? Check your Sunday ads for all three of these things. I can get a 160GB for $50 AR and two CD Burners (why two?) for about $20 more for both.

$60 saved right there. Put that to a quality video-card.

Okay...i've got questions here.

What's this rig being used for? If gaming, you really do want to look at a good video card; at least a 9800 Pro (256-bit 128MB).

How much can you spend in total?

Why not look into an AMD Athlon XP solution - far better price/performance likely.

Why 2 burners if you're trying to build on the cheap?
That 9600XT is fine... unless you want to play Far Cry or the other super hot titles. The 9600XT is a good respectable card.

A word of advice... Build it with quality the 1st time 🙂

$104 Mobile Barton XP 2600+

$60 Shuttle AN35N

$16 Speeze FalconRock HSF

$6 Arctic Silver 5

At stock 2 GHz, it should outperform the P4 @ 2.4 (That's why they call it 2600+) and later if you need you will be able to overclock it. If you have to stick to Intel for some reason, I think some of their 2.4s overclock as well, may want to consider if the mobo will support that. Most people here run AMD because of the better bang:buck ratio, so you may be able to get more support as well.

There is a good chance the 2400+ mobile will OC just as far and it is only $90 if you can't swing the extra $14. Mine runs about like a 3200+ when overclocked.

get another case. i got one's like that, except blue. the power supply = sh!t. usually u gotta get a expensive case that has a quality power supply. or just buy case and PSU separate.

I would recommend buying some stuff from these forums. If you don't mind used you can get a Radeon 9700 Pro,9800np for $120-$130 that will out perform than 9600XT. Or you can add another $20 or so and get a 9800 Pro.

Im not really sure why 2 burners, I just don't like having 1 drive now...
I am actually thinking about going with the AMD, after reading an issue of Computer Shopper. They built a dream PC (no price limit) and they did Intel and AMD, well the AMD performed better, plus its cheaper! I think I'm gonna redo the entire list...
