I hear you on the unsafe speeds. I figure about 80 is a comfortable at max cruising speed for this vehicle. I do love the quiet interior on these.

My first car was a Subaru Brat (1984/16 didn't care what it was as long as a car), then a VW Bug(1976/traded it after a month), then a Subaru Legacy(1996/just not sporty or anything), Honda Passport(1999/gas guzzler) and they were all used. So a new car is a welcome addition. 🙂

getting a new car is a great feeling-enjoy it🙂

Congrats on the new car. I'm not really a Celica fan, but I hope you like it.

On the GT 140 HP, GT-S 180 HP.

I had a 2.2 Legacy and a 1.8 Brat Turbo. I find this car faster then either, but then again, it is alot lighter.

I have a 2.2 impreza L. it is about 3 tons. I have like 140-150hp, so it is all good 🙂

3 tons?

i love the styling, although the GT is a bit over-priced as well as under-powered. i actually like the celica more over the scion tC even though the tC is a better value.

congrats

The Celica is like my Honda Prelude. Looks fast. But slow as molasses. Mine's manual too, but it weighs a hefty 3000lb.

2.2L H22 VTEC engine with rated 200hp/128lb-ft torque. Most likely much lower at the flywheel.

I thought I read in older magazines that the later gen Preludes have favourable handling, even though it's a FWD.

The most I've ever done was 170km/h on the Prelude. That was on the stock tires. Wasn't sure of the speed rating of the tire, so didn't take it too far. Even at those speeds it felt very stable.

It's a neat little compact car, but its not a sportscar...so be aware of it 😉

I don't know about 130, but 115 MPH was just fine in my Celica (was my friends' at the time), and he had a roof carrier on it at the time :Q. He's a crazy driver.

Later I did 115MPH without a roof carrier (gotta love empty Montana roads...), and it was fine.

It's not as fast as you think. And the Celica seemed to stay planted to the ground a bit better than my current car does.

When you're driving that fast on the highway, would it make a spoiler functional? Meaning would it have it's purpose or is it still just for looks?

most spoilers on cars are just for looks anyways. very few are them are actually fuctional.

nice, if you're 5 foot 6.

Actually, a guy I work with just bought a new Celica GT a couple months ago and he fits in it easily and he's 6'4".

His is dark metallic blue with 5 spd. It's a nice little car.

It's a nice car so I won't dog you like others are. 😉 Nice choice. Now do some mods to that bad boy because stock i think a taurus could beat you!!

But rims are a consideration, like 16"-17" would improve already great handling.

The larger tires would improve cornering (assuming you do get wider/stickier tires). But also keep in mind the extra unsprung weight. Big rims + big tires = Heavy. Acceleration. handling, ride comfort and overall performance decreases.

Bigger rims != Better handling

I personally like the 2000-2003 front end better than the new 2004/2005 front end. I was seriously considering one as a daily driver/occasional autocrosser. But I ended up going with an older Miata for much less. I think I'm happier with the Miata than I would have been with the Celica. Too bad you went for the automatic, any particular reason why?

3 tons?

3 tons in weight. that's for my impreza L. it is a small car.

An impreza L. weighs 6000 pounds?... You sure 😕
Imprezza probably tips the scales at something like 1.5 tons. He's smoking something if he thinks it's a 3 ton car. My 18+ foot long Mark VIII Lincoln isn't even 2 tons (1.9 tons, 3,800 pounds) and it's one heavy old boat.
