okay so this is my very first time building a computer. my budget is roughly 1200USD. the last 2 days or so i've been spending look at peoples opinions, website opinions and from what other people have purchased and their report on how it worked out. anyway here's what i got so far all i need now i *think* is the video card. i have a sound card already [sound blaster audigy 2], have a monitor, keyboard, speakers. anyway here's what i came up with. i mostly game and i don't know anything about overclocking but was hoping to learn how. that's why i decided to go with the e6400 instead of the e6600.

Processor [e6400]

Memory [f2-6400phu2-2gbhz]

DVD-R [Samsung SHS162LBEBN]

[30.99]

DVD-Rom [SONY DDU1615/B2s]

Floppy Drive [Samsung SFD321B/LBL1]

PSU [Antec TRUEPOWERII TPII-550]

[79.99]

The total so far (not including tax+shipping) is 802.26USD. Leaving me roughly 400 for a video card, case, and other little things like grease and whatever. Do you see anything wrong with the components I have picked out? Or have suggestions on something I should change, or a link to a part listed for cheaper? Thanks for all that lend a hand in helping me build my box

I think it looks good. I assume 7900 GT for video, and I would suggest the Cooler Master Cavalier 3 case (but replace the side duct with 80mm fan).

you know, i was just going to post a question about that :) . I was wondering is it worth it to go with SATA II? Or should I just stick with SATA? The motherboard I chose is going to come with SATA II support but from what I seen there isn't a HUGE advantage to using SATA150 as opposed to the SATA II harddrives.

Also, the ds3 motherboard only comes with one IDE support. Does that mean I can't have a DVD-RW and DVD-Rom hooked up at the same time? =[

SATA II or SATA150? Go with whichever drive is cheaper. The real-life performance difference is unnoticeable.

The DS3 does come with only one IDE port. You can still connect two devices to it so, YES you CAN use both DVD drives.

The stock 7900GT is fine if you can find it cheap enough ($210-230 after rebate). Otherwise, spend a little more and get an X1900XT.

You're going to have a tough time getting case recommendations until you specify the amount of $$ you want to allocate to it and what features you're looking for.

hmm well when i first started looking for stuff i looked at the cases first..it kind of came down between either the "COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW" or the "ThermalTake Tsunami" which is kind of a big price difference. So I figured I'd pick my parts first and see what I have left over and decide on a case. Unless you guys think that's a bad way of doing it?
