Yeah the stairs suck.

Just bought the house so I haven't gotten around to replacing it. As for the carpet under the sign, they put it there so you didn't smack you head on straight 2x8.

I doubt it would help much. Better than nothing I guess. Looks odd having carpeting on the wall though.
