Hello Anandtech,
I just wanted to let you all know that my new app Cinefy, is in its limited beta stage at the moment.

Cinefy is a mobile video editing and effects platform for iPhone where users create and share videos mixed with high quality visual effects. Cinefy empowers users with no editing skills to quickly insert footage, add music and apply visually stunning effects with its intuitive and simple interface.

In Cinefy, individual themed or branded effects packs are available for in app downloads, offering TV and game studios the ability to market new properties in a way that creates exciting engagement and massive viral exposure potential.

Check out some articles about it below:

If anyone has any questions about the app / general app store stuff / development I would be happy to answer them!

Does it support 24p? (I use the Filmic Pro app in 24p)

Does it handle Uncompressed Audio? (I use this because of the 24p)

Does it support more than 2 audio tracks? (other than camera audio + a musical score)

Hey Kaido,
I just ran some tests for you with the beta (note this could change in final release, if it does I will update you.)

24p from Filmic Pro worked fine (I love that app as well!)

Uncompressed audio appeared to work fine.

At the moment there are only 2 audio tracks. (Each track, and each clip have separate audio controls, so you can change the volume of each visual effects sound effect, etc.)

As I said this is with the beta, if we run into issues with the export things could change, but as of now it looks to be handling those formats fine.

Cool, thanks.

More than 2 audio tracks would help set this app apart from the others. So stereo video recording, stereo soundtrack, add in extra sound clips for sound effects, etc.

Also in-app editing. So drop a movie on your timeline, and add (1) iOS-style trimming, and (2) the ability to break a clip into 2 segments where the line is. iMovie was kind of a waste of five bucks for me.

Another cool feature would be multiple video tracks, with precedence (ex. top track is what is actually spit out in the final, but what is underneath in blank segments is filled in). So you could have one to shuffle a second set of clips around on for filler. I shot an interview tonight on my iPhone 4S with my external mic system (looks about 90% as good as my Canon T2i, lol) and that would have been really handy - I did a quick edit in iMovie to show them on-site, but it was kind of meh due to the editing. One cool idea would be to have the preview screen shrink to quarter-size while editing, and then just tap to go big and start playing. iMovie is like 90% of the way there, just a few more features like that and it would have been awesome.

Right now I don't really enjoy editing on my iPhone. Yes, it has a small screen, but I don't think that has to limit it - given the availability of horsepower and neat interface effects, it could be really fun to throw something together. Another good market to get into (not sure what your full direction is for the app) is "movie looks". I sort of like what's out there...Movie Looks & CinemaFX...but I think it could be better, especially with a queue system for rendering. A lot of stuff I shoot, I'd love to do a quick edit on, tweak some settings ProCamera style with some movie looks applied, and then line up to queue & export. Then I wouldn't have to touch my computer, which would be awesome.

Looking forward to trying the demo. Signed up! 🙂

for audio i would recommend 8 voices total. Switchable as stereo or mono. Mono tracks need panning.

Yah that would be really cool. Fortunately on my external recorder I have a "mono summed" mode, but having it on the iPhone would be stellar.

I think a really really cool video app could be made to compliment Filmic Pro - something that is actually finger-friendly and production-friendly. I'd love to shoot & edit little reviews entirely on my iPhone, without having to touch a computer. iMovie for iOS is not really sucked me in, nor have the other apps (Splice & Reel Director). There's a nice opportunity here.
