I will not stop stating it because it is a fact he needs to look into. I know for sure, because I've seen it many times. It's being disregarded by the OP and it's at least a 50% chance being his issue.
so earlier it was a fact that it is "not the card" but now you say it is a 50% chance? I was only telling you to stop saying that it was not the card since it most certainly could be.

I have only heard my Sapphire 7950 OC whine if the frame rate is extremely high. This is typically in mine craft where it hits 1000fps at times. This is not a reason to return the card.

Also, I had a 5750 before hand (slightly slower than the OP's 5770) and I noticed a HUGE increase in the games I play. BF3 being the big one. Before I was GPU limited, now I am CPU limited.

Guy, I'm telling you- I have done RMAs over coil whine.. IT'S NOT THE CARD.
Replace/RMA your PSU.

I'm thinking this too. The sound was described as like what you hear on high power lines. That's the 60 Hertz (or harmonic of) or 50 Hertz, depending on country, of the AC frequency. AFAIK, the only place to get AC power noise from is the PSU.

it is a known fact that gpus can also have this coil whine noise.

more inclined to agree about it being psu related as well. If you type in seasonic x750 coil whine in google you'll get plenty similar experiences with it.

Probably not PSU related, i have heard coil whine, I am on an HX850. There is no way my PSU is straining to power the card.

Additionally, the sound emanates from the graphics card. So if you've had the issue, it's pretty obviously not the PSU.

it has turned out to be the power supply in some cases. for me though, it was always the card.

Coil whine has nothing to do with a PSU struggling to power a component. It has everything to do with patterned signals causing filtering coils to resonate. There are coils on both your video card and your PSU, but it's generally more likely for coil whine to be audible on the much large filter coils in the PSU. Turning on vsync or displaying a moire pattern on my monitor can induce coil whine on some PSUs for example.

If you want to be picky, you can RMA the component exhibiting the whine, but it's pretty likely that your replacement will exhibit the same whine. If your device is out of warranty, you can apply some 3M caulk/sealant to the coils to help damp the vibration.

I have a Sapphire 7970 and it whines at all FPS. Whines a bit when dragging windows around. Whines loudly with Windows Experience Index. Whines in Unigine (55-100 FPS). Switched it into another system and it does the same thing.

Mine has a very noticeable "whine", even when idling. Luckily I wear headphones and really dont care.

Where is the coil on the video card?

I see it inside the PSU

Inductors == chokes == coils. Even ferrite chokes like the ones on your video card can hum or whine, but in general coil whine is a much bigger problem on those huge toroids you find in PSUs.

Thats correct although I always thought toroids are the best when it comes to coil whine due to how the magnetic field is equally distributed..
