My new 2100+ and neer heart attack

After reading about the OC ability of the 2100+ I decided to buy one, so I run over to TCWO and order one up. Now the counter guy tells
me I need a HSF to get a 1 yr warranty with it, so I tell him if he would credit me for the last HSF I bought with an OEM CPU (witch is
still in the box) I would do it. Well no go on that so I accept the 20 day warranty and I'm on my way. On the way home I'm thinking well
should I of got the HSF for the 1yr warranty.... naw so an hour later my rig is torn apart I install the new CPU decide to lap my HS to
a nice sheen (MCX462-U) put some AS 3 on and get it all back together Now the big moment I hit the power button and my led display
shows FF :disgust: for those of you who own an Epox board FF right from the start most of the time means dead CPU :frown: Well after
a bios reset and a few other things it still shows FF. At this point I'm having a cow and about to throw something to relieve my anger
and not to mention im worried about not getting a HSF for the warranty. SOOOO I tear it apart and find what looks to be a chip in the
core :Q but I decide to try it again and 3 hour into this simple CPU change out I hit the power button again and......... yes it works,
why it didn't work the first time is beyond me.

Well to make a short story long my old 2200+ would only do 2030Mhz and now im at 2300Mhz 12 X 192 @ 170 VC not to bad I think
and it might go higher.

Boy I tell you my stomach droped out when I saw FF on the led.

I've had a few of those encounters myself, glad it worked out for you in the end.

If you believe that chip was on the core when you recieved it then return it to them ASAP! The fact it's working in a superior manner@the moment maybe extremely temporary and if your luck is like most on day21 it'll go belly up! :Q They're a good company they will almost certainly exchange it for you if you explain what happened.

you know waht scared the sh*t outta me, my freaking psu blew up!!

sequence of events:
1.turn on computer...all is well
2.windows loads
3.let it open all the files and wahtever it loads right after startup..so wait like 5 secs
4.open IE
5. *CRACKLE*
6. look down at computer, see sparks out of psu (i have side of case off)
7. smoke bellowing from psu for about 2 seconds before i pull the plug

result: fried psu, fried mobo....
luckily it was only sdram, and im not sure if the ram works or not anymore....but now i hafta go buy mobo/ram/psu lol

I can see how that would be scarey. If you leave the side on, it won't scare you.

My fancy 400W Antec power supply quit (after about 2 years). It didn't smoke or spark. One day the computer would not power on. There is a fuse inside, but it isn't blown. (Too bad.) I don't think I'm going to buy any more expensive power supplies. You are out too much money when they quit. (It was nice that it didn't blow up though. Quality... hehe) So now I'm back to a 250W AGI I had sitting around. It seems to work about the same.

chip on the core??? what does that mean? what does it look like?

I would definitely return it as well....just because its working now doesn't mean it'll work later on

in my experience small chips on the core are fine, but if you can return it you might as well go ahead.
