My Netflix Queue lists 'Very Long Wait' for almost all of my list! WTF?!?

I've got a bunch of movies on my Netflix queue that are reporting a "Very Long Wait" -- first off, WTF does that mean? (Netflix doesn't bother to explain it) Secondly, why such a long wait for new releases? Geeze, can't they buy enough copies or something?

Here's some samples: Harold and Kumar (Very Long Wait), Napolean Dynamite (VLW), Hero (VLW), Garden State (VLW), The Village (VLW).

What gives? Come on Netflix, buy some more copies you cheap-ass bastidges! :|

Leave them at the top of your queue, there is no point in bumping something above them, your next movie will still ship within a day.

VLW just means there are currently more requests than copies, but there are still a lot of copies and a lot of people being mailed those copies.

Netflix seems to give people who put the title into their queue weeks in advance better odds of getting the high-demand titles, but many of those people will have all their movies mailed out when copies come back, so you do have a chance.

search "movie" and "netflix" for a bunch of threads of rental suggestions (a huge number if you search archived threads).

go out to the god damned store and get it then, it's known as "the real world" and it's "outside".

What a stupid thing to say.

LMAO!!
Consider the source, it'll make sense.

I just sent netflix, this:
Many of the movies in my queue say "very long wait" next to them.
How long is the wait at Blockbuster?

I just checked my queue, 4 out of 102 discs have a very long wait... it's odd which ones they are though.

Quantum Leap: Season 1: Disc 1
Top Cat: The Complete Series: Disc 5
Fletch
Driving Miss Daisy (it was recommended by Netflix...)

I don't rent many new releases though.

Out of curosity, I checked out Blockbuster. They have a deal with 3 free weeks and $14.99 a month till 01/2006. I screenprinted my queue at Netflix, canceled my account and opened one at Blockbuster. 2 short waits and the rest are all available.

You could have just suspended your account for up to 3 months. I tried Blockbuster for the free trial period, I wasn't happy with the turnaround time. That and, I really don't like Blockbuster.

5 of my top 6 DVDs are showing a wait of some sort. This is the first time I've had this occur in the 3 years I've had Netflix.

Band of Brothers: Disc 5 TV-MA Television Now

Garden State R Comedy Very Long Wait

Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle UR Comedy Very Long Wait

Alias: Season 1: Disc 1 TV-14 Television Very Long Wait

Short Cuts R Drama Very Long Wait

The Italian Job PG-13 Action & Adventure Short Wait

I have had A Perfect Circle's "Amotion" at #1 in my queue since the beginning of November. Still very long wait.

I just started BB's trial period and returning Harold and Kumar GTWC and Friday Night Lights today which came 2 days after signing up. Let's see the turnaround time.

I've been using Blockbuster for about 2 months now. Out of all of the movies listed above I got all of them the week or the week after they were released. Maybe due to the lack of popularity of Blockbuster, but I'm happy! I'm averaging about 3 to 4 days turn around time with them right now.

I've noticed VERY POOR availability in netflix as of late as well. I had to sign up for blockbuster's free trial just to get some new releases.

piss poor 🙁

Netflix has been blacklisting people for a while now, I don't think complaining would help.

Those of you with blockbuster online - remember you get 2 coupons for free in-store rentals, and they work on video games (that are normally $7 to rent)

i got a large queue of waiting list movies too. Even Anchorman has a VLW!! oh well, i guess I'll be getting tv season episodes on dvd for the next few weeks.

Actually, they do. Straight from the Netflix help section:

Q: What do Short Wait, Long Wait and Very Long Wait mean?
A: From time to time, you may see some movies in your queue with a wait status. A wait status is an indication that more customers want to see this movie than we have copies. We recommend that you keep your movies in the order you would like to view them regardless of the availability status, since we will ship all the copies we have, and some people seeing a wait status will in fact receive the movie.

Short Wait: We don't have quite enough copies of this movie to meet all current demand, so we may not be able to ship it to you right now. We should have enough copies in the near future. The wait for this movie is generally less than 14 days.

Long Wait: There's considerably more demand than available copies for this movie. It's unlikely that we'll be able to send you this movie in the next week or two. The wait for this movie is generally less than 30 days.

Very Long Wait: There is very high demand, limited availability and/or a very long wait for this movie. The wait for this movie is generally less than 4 months, but could be longer, for example if the movie is out of print or we are otherwise unable to buy more copies.

hmm.. Very Long wait .. "wait for this movie is generally less than 4 months, but could be longer, for example if the movie is out of print or we are otherwise unable to buy more copies.
"

I'm sure they can buy more copies of Garden State and Harold and Kumar....
