Proudly telling the world that "the economy is perfect to me," a Harrisburg Repo Man was featured Wednesday night on Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report."

Scott O'Brien of Harrisburg-based O'Brien's Recovery said business has been wonderful in the past year. As gas prices went up, more people lost their cars -- which means enough money for him that he can build a new house, he said on the popular comedy show.

"I love the economy," he said. "I'm going to miss Bush when Bush gets out of office. I don't know what we're going to do. But I'm speaking for all Repo Men: Bush, we're going to miss you, buddy. For real."

Reached by phone in Harrisburg this morning, O'Brien said he was pleased with the segment, which was taped Monday in the city. He has received a few calls since the segment ran, he said.

"One person was not supportive, but the rest of the people said it was funny," O'Brien said.

Yes, the midstate has one of the lowest jobless rates. But O'Brien took visible glee in recalling tales of repossessing a heart monitor, a defibrillator, cars, even a man's hearing aid.

"In the United States you can legally steal a car and get paid for it," O'Brien said.

The show is political in nature, as Stephen Colbert plays a mock conservative commentator.

"You see, Democrats, you may see the glass as half-empty," Colbert said. "But the Repo Men see that you are behind payments on that glass."

He lives across the street from me. He's always leaving in the middle of the night to steal someone's car.

Agreed ....
If you "buy" something and then fail to pay for it ... then you are the one doing the stealing, not the one who picks it up as to cut the losses of the financier.

Personally, i found that segment hilarious... i mean the guy soooo looked the part too... fat grimy lookin repo man.

I actually read an article on reuters about repo guys in florida a while ago, who have been doing very well repo-ing boats . Makes sense that a boat is the first thing someone struggling stops payments on... but apparently they sometimes they really fuck with the repo guys... removing bits of the engine, spreading feces around the cabins... anyway its good to know at least someone is benefiting from the economy...

I knew a guy who knew a few people that learned to break into cars and steal them when they were high schoolers. Guess what the two who didn't get caught ended up doing...

Yeah, that's right, they are repo men now.

He repo'd a plane once. That would have been nuts.
