Does your community have any leash laws? In mine your pet would be picked up by Animal Control (yes, even a cat) if they are free in the neighborhood.

Years ago when I was a kid we owned a beautiful Siamese ... that we let free in the neighborhood and was soon found dead, poisoned by one of the neighbors.

Domesticated pets like cats and dogs do not belong outside except under watch for this reason among others.

Domesticated cats are still roamers.. they need their space and really cannot exist on a leash like many cities and towns think they can.

what? Are you trying to troll purposely? Your other post about spending more than $250 on a vet bill is ridiculous was another great piece of insight.

You can put a harness on a cat. The problem is most have not socialized their cats enough and they have become borderline wild animals. If you care for the cat from day one like a dog (baths when needed, nail clipping, veternary care, etc), they will be pretty friendly and gentle.

A dog wants to roam too, but owners know not to do this.

Many cat owners even if they own dogs, do not take their cats into the vet. I don't get the double standard and confusion when they wonder why the cat isn't as friendly as the dog.
