I'll bet that it's probably like a driveway or something that will just encroach on that area.

I mean, would you even notice? I'd guess, off the top of my head, that 5k would be fair.

I had a relative once who had something like this happen. A neighbor of hers had accidentally encroached on her land while building a driveway. They offered to buy the land. Must have been like a few square feet.

she refused and in the process forced them to tear up the driveway.

Yeah, bad karma, over such a petty issue. Such is my family...

I'd check w town hall to see if this is even legal. You dont want to fall into a situation where if you create a contract/agreement between the two of you which is then ruled unenforceable by a court. If town hall allows this, make sure you get your property reassessed. The tax burden of the transferred property should then fall to the new owner and no longer you.

can you rent/lease it to him? That way you still have complete control of it. :D

I can't believe people are saying to be careful of this piece of land so far away from the land he actually does use. We have 60x100 lots around here and houses sit nearly on top of each other. I guess it's all relative. But it's way the f**k out there and is right at his neighbor's house already. It's only a technicality that it belongs to him and should care what happens to it.
