My music thread: My Guitar tunes

rbV5

Lifer
I'm an amateur guitarist that has been noodling around playing for many years. At times, I've let some time pass without picking my guitar up, lately, I've had a passion for playing, so I'm posting some tunes in a thread. I've gotten helpful feedback before, so I appreciate any comments.

Some songs are composed entirely by me, some I'm playing behing a "backing track". ALL of the lead guitar is me. I'll note the instruments I'm playing with the song notes. The latest posted songs are at the BOTTOM of the OP .

Tunes
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's a tune I did for a contest recently in the spirit of Pink Floyd (nope, didn't win) I was going for a kinda simple Gilmour feel with the mood and guitar.

I'm playing an acoustic, Bass, clean electric rhythm and Lead Guitar. Drums are sampled. Forgot, there's a simple synth line also.

Floyd

I was going for kind of a soulful feel into an upbeat chorus with this one.

I'm playing a mix of acoustic/electric guitars + Bass and sampled drums.

Destination

(listening now, I missed with the Bass coming in a slight bit, and overall the Bass sounds a bit much in the mix overall. Unfortunately, I need some monitors if I'm going to do a good job mixing)

-------------------------------------------------------------

Here's an acoustic song I did a little while ago. Originally it was going to be an electric rocker, but I like the way it sounds acoustic better. I wish I had an acoustic Bass, but I used what I got 🙂

I'm playing Sampled drums + Electric Bass + 3 acoustic guitars.

3:32 192kbps Stereo mp3

Acoustix

----------------------------------------------------------------

This one is more of a mood music tune. I'm playing clean electric guitars + Bass and added a simple synth line.

3:59 192kbps Stereo mp3

Coool

------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a tune I originally posted in my "10,000th post thread". I used the same tracks and just remixed it. I'm playing an acoustic, an electric Bass and a couple of electric guitars. The drums are sampled.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was playing around with harmonized dual leads for this song. This another tune I just used my existing tracks and remixed it. I'm playing the usual Bass + Electric Rhytm guitar and dual electric lead guitars.

Laughing

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's a simple song. I'm playing an electric Bass + Acoustic Guitar + lead Guitar. For this song I just tried to play nice and clean. My style tends toward sloppy, so sometimes a nice simple clean line is a nice change of pace, and sometimes says even more.

3:26 192kbps Stereo mp3

Trials

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I tried to stay melodic with my lead guitar in this tune. Nothing too fancy, and kind of a heavy feel. I'm playing Bass + Acoustic + electric rhythm, couple electric lead guitars.

4:28 192kbps Stereo mp3

DarkStar

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kind of a "wall of sound" with this tune. I'm playing Bass + couple rhytm guitars, + an acoustic and an electric lead guitar.

4:08 192 kbps Stereo mp3

Walls

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Heres a tune featuring a couple slide guitars. I'm playing Bass plus a few guitars in this one.

3:17 192kbps Stereo mp3

Slideways

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Heres a slow Blues number. I'm playing an Improvised lead guitar over a simple Blues backing track.

3:41 192kbps Stereo mp3

SloBlues

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a song I did a while ago. Its pretty much a straight up Blues number. I'm playing the guitars + Bass in this one.

2:49 192kbps Stereo mp3

On the Rise

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I thought I'd crank it up a little this morning 🙂. I'm playing a reckless lead guitar over a metal backing track for this tune.

2:58 192kbps Stereo mp3

Plectra

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm just playing the lead guitar for this tune. It's a little rocker and I'm basically playing a simple RIFF followed by a couple blistering leads (LOL) I was kinda shooting for a Mike Campbell type style for my lead work.

3:23 192kbps Stereo mp3

Leven

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's my attempt to cover a blues classic. I've updated the mix and fixed a few trouble spots 🙂 I'm playing the lead guitar only for this one.

5:06 192kbps Stereo mp3

The Thrill is Gone

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a remix of a jam tune I originally posted in the ATOT band thread. I'm playing Bass/Rhythm/Lead guitars for this one. I think there are a couple of rough passages I need to work out a little better, but it's mostly the way I want it.

3:32 192kbps Stereo mp3

Yup Yup Yu

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

This a straight ahead quick little blues number. I'm playing Lead guitar and a RIFF throughout on rhythm guitar over a somewhat generic blues backing track. I'm playing without a pick on lead guitar (typical for my blues leads).

2:49 192kbps VBR Stereo mp3

Bitter Blues

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

For this tune I'm using alternate picking throughout with a wah pedal on my lead. I doubled my lead and dropped the pitch a third for a faux dual lead sound for much of the tune for something a little different. I'm playing rhythm and lead guitars over a metal backing track.

4:34 192kbps VBR Stereo mp3

Metalaster

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is an up-tempo straight up blues number. I'm playing lead guitar over a BB King style backing track.

3:15 192kbps VBR Stereo mp3

Blews

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's a Jazzy Blues number. I'm playing slide guitar and a clean lead guitar. I used E dorian mode to give it a more jazzy feel.

4:10 192kbps VBR Stereo mp3

Island Breeze

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a light acoustic rock tune. For this one I'm going for a melodic lead playing a couple of chorused eletric lead guitars over rhythm backing track. The second lead guitar kicks in ~ 2:35 to try and give it a kinda wall of sound orchestrated feel to finish out the song.

4:03 192kbps VBR Stereo mp3

Updraft

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pretty straight forward rocker. I'm playing multiple Guitars + Bass in this one, drums are programmed. This is my first recording using my new interface, and tried working toward getting a better mix, particularly with the drums, which have been a major weakness.

3:06 192kbps Stereo mp3

Frih

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hard Rocker. I'm playing multiple Guitars + Bass for this tune. Harmonized Riffs and Liberal use of my wah on the lead for this one.

4:15 192kbps Stereo mp3

Krankenfurthur

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For this song I'm playing a couple of guitars + Bass. Drums are software and I added a panning synth line. Nothing too fancy performance wise, and its quite a bit longer than my other tracks to try and convey the feeling of a journey.

7:39 256kbps Stereo mp3

Seas of Xesat

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Metal Tune. I'm playing Bass + Rhythm and Lead Guitars for this tune. Drums are software programmed. Pretty straight forward other than some slide effects with the lead.

3:08 256kbps Stereo mp3

Uytre

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Metal/Hard Rock tune. I'm playing a couple guitars + Bass for this tune, the drums are software programmed.

4:31 256kbps Stereo mp3

dher Transdt

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm doing a guitar cover of Foo Fighters "Home" off the "Echoes, Silence, Patience And Grace" album for this one. I sucked it up and went for vocals as well.....😕

I'm playing acoustic, Bass and a few electrics on this one. I'm singing a duo wth myself. The drums are programmed, otherwise the rest is all me. I fubbed a couple spots, and came up a little flat a couple times and tried to keep the guitars simple.

Appreciate any comments 🙂

That was sweet.

Wish it had real drums though and the drums seemed to quiet to me. But still a very nice song.

You might be right about the drums (quiet)

I hear you about the drums 🙁 I've got a full kit sitting here, but they just sit there and mock me <shakes fist>. I used a pretty simple drum line as well, so I agree the drums are pretty weak.

Thanks 🙂

Added another song I had almost done..sounds like it could use a remix after I listen a little more.

That's pretty damn good. The first one definitely sounds very floydish and I think I like the last one the best right now (though I didn't listen to all of them).

A few weeks ago I was in the guitar shop thinking of getting a new guitar (a standard Strat to replace my crummy Squier) and while playing with the various guitars and basses, I was thinking it'd be cool if I could write and play my own songs like that. Unfortunately, even if I buy all the instruments I'd still be short on talent and imagination 😉

Thanks for the comments 🙂 I apprecitae them.

I hear you on the equipment. I've got a cheap Schecter guitar and a J-Station modeler/Interface. Its a good budget setup, and the J-Station provides lots of different sounds, however it always sounds thin against a decent guitar and the sweet tone of a nice tube amp...someday baby

I upped another tune this morning. Should be close to the complete "side1" of my Instrumental album project. I have a few more I need to mix, and then come up with a couple new tunes to complete it.

I'm fairly prolific with my composing, although I'd like to move toward some more complexty as my tunes are somewhat repetitve IMO.

Thanks again for the comments 🙂

God, I wish I had someone like you as my neighbor. I have always had a dream of sitting outside during the summer, drinking beer, and listenening to some good live music from a neighbor playing guitar like this.

Thanks 🙂 I think that one I just improvised the solo after recording the rhythm section in a single take and I liked it right off.

I usually have a good idea by the time I get to the solos because it takes me a while to get the song down first, and the lead parts always are the last things I record. It allmost always takes several different tracks and overdubbing to get one I like. Not always though 😉

I just kicked out something new but I don't want to hijack your thread; check your PMs 🙂

Yea, I've been working on something with "octojam" actually..not quite happy enough yet (and I got busy mixing over the past week)

Added a new song 🙂

The songs are in order by post date. Newest song is at the bottom of the OP. Comments welcome.

Hey, on your Floyd recording, I have a suggestion. Let the beginning backings play for a full bar before the guitar kicks in. It needs to build the mood and breath for a bit.

Not bad though. Little too heavy on the "Hey You" sample 🙂 I think Hey You was in the key of C (not sure--been a while since i played it). I can't tell if you did C minor on this, but if you did you could spice it up with a D#Maj scale. Gilmour LOVED the Dm/Fmaj scale---most of the songs people consider to epitomize Pink Floyd were played at the 10th position Dm. You could take that into account the next time you do a project like this.

I'm giving the other ones a listen.

Nice job on the latest song, SloBlues
That's probably the best sounding of them all so far too. Great guitar work 🙂

Odd thing i noticed.
Listening to SloBlues, when it was over i thought "man, i wish that was longer".
You have SloBlues @5:07 but it's only 3:42 & Slideways @3:17 but it's 4:57. All the other ones are about right.

Thanks for the input, I appreciate the insight. Yea, there are a few parts where I came in a little sooner, where a little later would have made a more emotional impact, I agree. I did play the entire lead in the 10th position btw 😉

Wow, I'm going to check those times 😱. I may have fubured a cut/paste or something.

Thanks for the comments on SloBlues. I'm not sure what happened, but it sounds like I have too much reverb on my guitar in that particular mix. I'm going to up a different mix and see if you don't like it better. I wanted my guitar to "cut through" a little more distinct.

Thanks for the listen!
