My mouse goes everywhere.

My older Dell basic mouse kept stuck somewhere so I just bought a new Logitech optical(white cheaper one) mouse.
I installed the latest software and it's not working properly.
It keeps disappearing(moves fast by inselfr whereever it wants to go) and I have to fight with it.

Is something wrong with my computer or the mouse?

I can think of three things with the info you provided:

1. Check the Logitech mousware settings and \ or reinstall the software.

2. You mentioned that it "moves by itself" and that you have to "fight with it." Are you certain that someone has not planted a trojan in your system to gain remote access? Does it do it when you are NOT connected to the net? If you are on a cable modem you might try pulling the plug and see if that helps.

3. Is it an optical mouse? What type of surface is it on? Optical mice do not like reflective surfaces

1. First I installed the software it came with then I downloaded the newer one from their website.

2. I doudt anything funny is in my computer. It doesn't move like someone is controlling. It goes top or bottom or side of the screen in a split second and I have to bring it back. Sometimes it doesn't wanna go where I want it to go. I use cable internet and behind the firewall.

3.My mouse pad is kinds shiny. I'll try without it.

i think you bought a first generation optical mouse
they are prone to jumping if you move suddenly or move too fast
get a second or third generation optical mouse(like the mx 500)
then i think your problem should be solved

logitech doesn't suck.i have 2 logitech mice at home and none of them give me problems.but their drivers do have flaws.

There was this guy, he was a visual minority and he robbed me, now I hate all visual minorities. Do you see the flaw in this logic?
Logitech meece are my favourite, they are rule. Some people like MS mice, that doesn't bother me, I just prefer logitechs. I do have one of those cheepo white ones, I got my for 15 bucks CND (like, 9 bucks US) and it's a bit skippy/jumpy.. my guess is that logitech made a crapload of craptacular el cheepo mice and are now unloading them for cheap on the unsuspecting public.. the old axiom, you get what you pay for, seems appropriate here. I'm sure that any 15 dollar optical mouse would be just as craptacular, yours' sounds extra sucky though. Do what the others have suggested, try drivers, if not, return it.

Hmmm to put it simple that`s wrong! Logitech mice are known for their good reliability in general, however any mouse from any brand can become faulty ,their software may not be perfect compared to Microsoft but that`s only in gaming,I`ve been using Logitech mice for over 6 years now and have yet to have one fail or cause me problems, infact still using my old blue optical Mouseman Wheel mouse (1st generation optics).

Getting back on topic the mouse could be defective so try it in another PC,or as already mentioned could be the surface it`s trying to read from ,so try it on a different surface & see if that helps,if you do decide to RMA it, I would recommend that in the future you get a MX300 ,MX500(corded) or MX700 (cordless version) which are the best Logitech mice on the market at the moment, infact they have the best optical sensors period.

:)

First, I'd look at that kinda shiny mouspad before I return it.

Second, yea it might be a first generation mouse. All the older opticals had issues reguardless of manufacture.

Third, I don't agree with Goose77's opinion. I enjoy both MS, and Logitech products.

OK, problem solved.
It was the damn mouse pad that came with my Dell.

But I want to take it back. My old ItelliMouse is alot comfortable and middle button(scroll) is easier to press. I don't like the feeling of the Logitech scroll button. I use it as Back function and my hand gets tired easily.

I bought my brother Blue/greysh Logitech Optical mouse(2nd Gen?) last year and it's been great. I thought this mouse I just bought was same as the other one, just diffrent color.

Yep- I have two of the older blue Mouseman Wheelmouse opticals and wouldn't use anything else. I forgot how long it's been since I've had to adjust the settings.

ok.. maybe i over reacted a bit. You are all right. its the drivers. i had a hell of a time deleting all the registry crap from logictech before i could get any mouse to work. I hate them so much for that reason. And it wasnt just on one comp. it was many. so frustration set in and now i hate them. other then that, they are fine.

get a plane coloured mouse pad (black works well for me) I have similar issues when using multicoloured mouse pads.

The microsoft Optical Wheel Mouse is cheap, durable, and works well. There is a deal on it right now at Best Buy and Staples -- read about it here
