My motherboard can not be reading my CPU temperature correctly...(plus a question about voltage)

It's reporting it at 42 degrees celcius. It's a celeron 2 800 OC'ed to 1120MHz (1.9V). Right now I've got 2 fans on the HS (Globalwin WBK38), plus a big house fan blowing into the side of the case. The HS is almost cold to the touch. Is there any way that the temperature reading my mobo is giving is right? I don't think it could possibly be.

Another question - How high is too high for the volage on a FC-PGA Celeron? I want to try and OC it some more, since it doesn't appear to be hot at all, but I don't want to put the voltage up too high. Although if 42 degrees is right then I won't OC it any further because I don't want it any hotter.
 
whats wrong with 42 degrees celcius? In my opinion that's a perfect temp for your setup, although the temp might be more of an issue if you try to overclock more... (if you ran it at its default clock speed, it would be solid as a rock, even if it was at 60 celcius..) Someone else will have to answer the voltage question... jm
 
I've got a similar problem with my Celeron. Its O/C from 800mhz to 1066mhz but the temp never even reaches 35c.
 
What's your case temp on the Celeron System?

PLus, remember that bumping the voltage to 1.9 will increase heat significantly... chances are pretty good your mb is reading the temps fine (what motherboard is it, btw?).

The case temp is 29 degrees. Motherboard is an ASUS CUSL2-C. With my previous Celeron the HS would usually be moderately warm when I had it OC'd and the CPU temp was never over 40 degrees. That's the only reason I'm skeptical of my motherboard's temperature readings. The HS literally could almost be considered cold. Maybe my HS's just not very good, hehe.

Edit: Oh and another thing - Several programs that I've tried are reporting my CPU as being under 30 degrees...
 
What other motherboard did you ahve before? Depending on this motherboard, ti may or may not have read in the internal diode, which results in drastically different readings.

What other temp reading programs are you using? if you're using Motherboard MOnitor, the CPU sensor must be set to "asus2-Cusl2" in order to get a true reading.... The other programs are reporting under 30C? SO, the temps are under case temp? That isn't possible, CPU temp (especially internal diode readings) cannot be under case temp, at best they are a few C within case temp. Looks like the other programs are either not configured to read the CUSL2-c or reading improper sensors.

The CUSl2-C has no problem reading the celeron internal diode... 42C, + or - a few C in terms of calibration, is probably a correct reading.

I just downloaded HMonitor and it's reporting my CPU as 16 degrees. Hmm, some how I don't think that's right...
 
16 degrees is completely wrong... 😀

P.S. Just found radiate again... your CHIP is probably putting something like 36W at load. Based on your heatsink, you're probably looking at "load" temps of around 14-15C over ambient case temp.
