Hello Team,

We found out today that my mother has stage 1 invasive ductal carcenoma. In light of this I have decided to take a pro-active role in cancer research through distributed computing and other means. I have joined the United Devices grid.org program and set my client to their cancer research program, out of all the research I did on such programs theirs seems to be one of the better clients available.
^^^ It's free, It's easy, and it won't hurt your computer.
Get the client and Get started!

If you need help getting started with this Visit the Distributed Computing forums.

I encourage all of you to make an honorary donation to the National Foundation for Cancer Research
In my mothers name. here is our information for you to do that

First Name: Kathleen
Last Name: Thorpe
Address: 5583 Basil ST NE
City: Salem
State: Oregon
Zip: 97301
Country: United States of America
E-mail: CancerHelp@cleanyourdirt.com
Phone: 503.507.1271

You can also make a donation to the American Cancer Society

If you want to donate anonymously, just make it from Team AnandTech.

If you rather get some swag for your donation I will be making a run of Case badges from an old TeAm logo from the AT store days, and some T-shirts, All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society or the National Foundation for Cancer Research. It's going to take me a few weeks to get that set up tho.

Althought we have Health Coverage that is going to cover most of the medical costs I do belive that we will be stuck fitting some of the bill. If you would like to help in that regard we have a paypal account you can do that to the address is;
billing@techmayhem.net

I will keep everyone apprised of the status of that account and anything not needed / used will be donated to the ACS or NFCR.

I thank you all from the bottem of my heart for your thoughts during this difficult time for my family. I'm not a religous person, but if you would keep us in your prayers we'd greatly appreciate it.

Marked for later, I'll probably be donating to this once I get my paycheck. Narzy, please PM me on Monday once I get my paycheck. I don't want to forget about this.

My aunt HAD breast cancer...she is a survivor and doing very well now...It is very beatable as you've probably read, my thoughts are with you and your family man. Just be there for her and spend time together.

My wife has the same thing. She goes in the hospital on the 5th for an exploratory biopsy. Good luck to us all.

I lost my grandmother to this, and almost my mother, I'll keep you in my prayers, goodluck to you guys, I understand how hard this is going to be for you guys.

First I would like to say thank you for all the kind comments so far. It really has lightened my day.

Second I couldn't sleep last night 🙁

Third I wanted to tell you a little bit about my mother. I don't generally reveal too much of my personal life on the boards but in all honestly this community has become more of a part of my life then I would like to admit.

My mother is a large part of my life, she basicly raised me as a signal parent for 16 years before getting married to my (awsome) step father, I am 20 now. I have had my share of problems growing up and my mother has always been there for me 120% always putting me before herself even if I never gave it a second thought or the recognition she deserved. My mother is now 47, we are very close. I am sorry if some of these doesn't come out clearly, please understand I'm going on hour 20 here.

About my mom.
As I said, my mother is 47 now, she has an Masters degree in business administration and a batchlers in psychology. she started her own environmental consulting business over 5 years ago and has been in the environmental consulting business for over 15 years. She is also an ajunct instructor of economics at Chemeketa Community College and has been for the last 17 years. She has done most of this while being a single parent to one hell of a rotten son (me 😉 ) in 2001 She married my step father (Mike) who is totally awsome. Mike is a "Pesticide Investigator" for the Oregon Department of Agraculture. I used to be a network administrator for a large ISP however I have left that position to go back to school full time, I am looking at a career in the medical field now.

That is a little bit about us as a family, I guess I just needed to get it off my chest 😉.

Got a call from the surgen today, she is schedualed to go in on tuesday for a pre-op evaluation.

Sorry dude. Best wishes to your mom.

best of luck to your mother. I thought the mods frowned upon donation threads ?? Either way, good luck and God bless.

A lot of my relatives have/have died from cancers of all sorts. I'm broke as hell right now, but I will keep your mother in my thoughts - i know how it is. Best of luck.

no worries about donating to the ACS or NCRF, the thoughts and prayers are worth more then all the money in the world.

Going to bed for the evening, I'll set up a webpage tomorrow to cover all the info and sort some it out tomorrow.

Thanks again for all the support, you really don't know how helpful all of it is. AT never ceases to amaze me.
