This thread is an example of the originator not even show any faith (having or not) gets ripped just for the mention of the Pope. Whether your are religious or not you have to at least admit the Pope is a highly intelligent man and has done a lot of good things for many people. Just because his religious views differ from your there is no need to blast him and the originator of this thread. Maybe I was over-reacting a bit but someone has to stand up for the Pope. You try growing up Polish! :)

I personally believe that every time the Pope farts a hurricane is a'commin! :)

Yeah...just slightly overreacting

It wouldn't have mattered if he said his mom, his wife, his dog, Brett Favre or Madonna...he'd have gotten the same responses.

I disagree. Many of the threads here "Pro-choice" to name one end up as a Religious bashing thread. There are some good points made but many posters just take the opportunity to say how anyone who "believes" (in whatever they choose to believe in) are foolish or idiots. I'm not even close to being a religious zealot and I don't take offence to many comments except for their lack of logical or intellectual content. This thread was so far from anything religious (aside from the mention of the Pope and as you pointed out he could have said anyone) but there had to be someone bashing the Pope.
The other problem is, IMHO, almost everything the pope says is waste so there's a glut of papal waste product on the market. Stressing IMHO!
That's his opinion granted, but the Pope, leaving religion aside, has done more for many people than most realize. I admit my complaint belongs somewhere else.
Thank you

Perhaps it's that many people are sick and tired of hypocritical positions supported by various religions. And, sick and tired of supporting and hiding criminal behaviour for decades.

I'd be willing to bet my left testicle that the Pope knew of the decades-long sexual abuses by priests but did he say one thing to try and bring it into the open so it could be stopped and punishment delivered?

Nope.

Not a peep from the Pope.

In that respect, yes, I can certainly understand people bashing the Pope. And, what's to make him different from anyone else that gets bashed up here? This place is certainly Equal Opportunity when it comes to that! :p

You called what about the Pope's condition? Your message in the thread only talks about your mother's strange claim which hasn't been proven one way or the other.
What's the point of this thread at all?

There's rarely any point to threads in the first place. Just thought I'd introduce a new subject :)

I never said I agreed with her. I'm just saying she kept making this claim for the longest time.

How old are you?

You are correct this is an equal opportunity bashing forum. I do not know what the Pope knew in regards to the recent happenings with Catholic Priests. However, I'm sure he wasn't please with the way many have conducted themselves especially in such a position of trust. However, these individuals are the minority. I went to catholic school my entire life and never once encountered a priest who betrayed any trust in this or any other way. The majority of Priest dedicate their lives to the community to children (in a respectful way), to homeless and the poor. It is very sad that a few misguided priests had to make a bad name for the rest and completely belittle everything they have done to make this a better world. Yes, a better world through medical, emotional, international, war time, the list goes on.

The Pope has done many great things for many countries, too many to list. He is accountable for the actions of those "under" him and has probably done something internal. That doesn't make up for everything that has been done to those affected (and we are all affected by these events).

I did not want to come across as a Non-religious person hater, I am far from one to judge. However, when someone is cutting down another human be it the Pope, Saddam, President Bush, Hilary Clinton I do prefer to see some logic and intellect in their statements, not the usual those religious fools!

who is the pope?

The Pope is a man, nothing more.

well, thats subjective. to you and me he may be nothing more than a man but his position is obviously important enough to hold cultural significance all over the globe.

Even within the context of Christianity, the Pope is just a man, and nothing more. Catholics pray to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; not to the Pope. (The near deification of the Virgin Mary in the eyes of Catholics is disturbing, but not the subject of this post.) The Pope is a man holding an elected office; he is not in any way, shape, or form anything but a man.

"Don't be a great man. Just be a man, and history will take care of it self..."
