OK, since that entire part of that state is wrong, it's going to be up to you to go knock and every door and tell them to change their ways.

I would invite you to re-read my post and point out where I said what they were doing is "wrong" or they need to change. You don't have to look for long though because as I'm sure you've gathered by now, I never said anything like that. All I said was they are not located in the south regardless of doing typically "southern" things so calling them southerners is flat out wrong.

There is no part of Ohio that's "the south". Just because they've adapted some of the southern ways doesn't mean they're part of it. By that logic you can also say your mother is european because it seems like she's adapted some of that way too.

This.

So what does she say instead of "junk in the trunk"? Fruit in the boot? Loot in the boot? Toot in the boot? :hmm:

I met a girl once who had a really strange accent.

Turns out her parents had used the TV as a babysitter instead of, you know, raising their kid. The accent was half Monty Python, half Dukes of Hazzard, and it wasn't nearly the weirdest thing about her.

She was cute though. Smart, too.

junk in the truck refers to the size of your boot. So they are synonymous.

Ohio doesn't exist.

It's a fictional horrible place used to scare children. "Clean you're room or we'll move to Ohio."

They can talk however the hell they want but that doesn't make them part of the "south".

If everyone in Mississippi started saying "hella" they wouldn't be from the Bay Area now would they?

Typical ATOT discussion:

"This post is about A. Minor details about A are b, c, and d."

"Oooooo....b, c, and d are shiny!"

Uh, that's not a southern thing, it's a European thing. My mom's from North Carolina and she's always said "trunk".

Those are all British terms, which I never hear down here. If I remember correctly, the term "boot" originates from the French word "boîte", which means "box" in English. I'm guessing that it comes from those old photos that come to mind where cars would have those boxes on the back to hold things. Those boxes were pretty much just trunks, which I'm guessing is why we call them that.

FL should be a separate country.

Florida is pretty much a Yankee's refuge while in the south. :p

When she goes shopping, does she get a shopping cart or a 'buggy?'

Ugh, the term buggy is so weird, and given that I'm in the south, I hear it all the time. I keep looking for the horse!

We talk about what we wanna talk about. Its not always the first subject. A good brain can go beyond the boundaries.

The only American I have ever heard use those British equivalents was from Maysville Kentucky. Maysville is just across the river from southern Ohio.

How close to Maysville was your Mother raised?
