Sorry to hear that.

Generally I like to make allowable jerk comments, but this doesn't warrant one. Hope all fares well with you and your family.

3 years ago I was Diagnosed with testicular cancer at the age of 22. I was fortunate enough to have caught it early enough to only need surgery. Its been 3 years and 3 months and I've been cancer-free since.

It's not a death sentence as some of said, just be strong for your mother and trust the Doctors, they do really know what they're doing. I was lucky enough to have had an ultrasound and two days later had my surgery (A good example of the Canadian Healthcare Sysytem :D )

I hope everything turns out ok for you and your family.

I'm sorry to hear that. My mother died of cancer 13 years ago, so I can empathize with you. My cousin's wife had cancer, went through months of treatment, and has been cancer free for a while, so I hope the same can happen with your mom.

...Or how 'bout we just hope it's not cancer at all :)

As the brother of someone who passed from cancer, I concur with the FUCK CANCER sympathies. By brother was courageous and cheerful to the end, and never failed to make us laugh. Try to keep her humor up, and just be there with her.

Sorry to hear about this - but there is a positive side to this too. Even though her parents suffered from this back in the 70s, we have moved quite a ways in treatment over the last 30 years. Now that she knows it there, its time to do something about it, and focus on what one has control over. This is not a death sentence by any means - please keep her positive in this regard. Your strength and resolve will reflect on her, and it is important for you to provide that support. I wish you and her the very best - and I am hopeful that she will be cured, because that is always a possibility.

God bless.

I'm sorry to hear this. Tell your mom to stay strong, stay positive and fight it as hard as she can.

My thoughts are with you.

I'm so sorry to hear about the troubles for you and your family. I hope for the best for your mom.

Remember folks, hug your parents, visit them, talk to them, whatever it takes. I moved out 9 years ago and have visited them pretty much once a week ever since then. Looking back, I still don't think that was enough.

I agree wholeheartedly with all that except for that last bit. To that I respectfully say "hogwash"!
You cared to see them and made the effort, clearly you love your folks and they love you.
Don't look back like that, there is no measure for how much is enough. :)
Take good care of yourselves.

*hugs* to you and lola and your family. Medical science has really gotten good at handling cancer, and even when they advise of rough odds good things can still happen. A friend of mine recently survived stage 3 pancreatic cancer, which is supposed to be close to impossible.

Oh damn...that's horrible. Good luck with everything going forward, mental fortitude is going to be as important as anything else. Somehow you need to get your mom away from the "why didn't I" and "what ifs".

I don't even mind Protocol's comment. It kind of pulled me from the situation and made me smile. I don't take offense to it at all. I couldn't be a dick and let things like that get to me ;).

My Mom is a cancer survivor, and I'm confident that your Mom will be as well. My thoughts are with you and your Ma's speedy recovery.

My best wishes go out to your mom, and really your whole family. Hopefully she will win the battle against this cancer. It sounds like she's surrounded by people who care. People doing enough good that she'll still maintain some semblance of a quality of life.

Thanks for the support everyone.

I went with her to the ultrasound of her abdomen today. The nurse couldn't officially say good or bad, but she said it looked okay to her. I'll breathe easier once she has it removed.

Good luck wiz, glad you're close by to your parents--both of mine live up in the Keweenaw so I don't get to see them or check up on them nearly enough. If there's one thing we still have down here in SE MI it's top-notch hospitals of every sort.

Just be supportive and spend time with her. My son just went through five very long years on Cancer treatment, we became part of several great organizations that helped us through the treatment process.

Good luck and God Bless!!!
