My mom finally decided to learn how to use the computer!! I'm so proud!! :)

My mom gets a GOLD STAR!! 🙂

52 years old and she is JUST now learning how to use the computer. I've been trying to teach her for years but she wouldn't bother. I tried sitting her down a couple of years ago in front of Windows 98 and gave her the mouse. She'd look at the screen, look at the mouse, move the mouse, then look at the screen. It was hopeless and she basically decided "screw it."

So I tried again (this time with WindowsXP) and it's golden!! 🙂 She can get on Netzero (and logoff), use the internet, email, and even print out her invoices from Half.com (which I used to do for her). She called me on my cell this morning b/c she was so happy that she printed out something for the first time.

I'm so proud of me mum 😉 Now if I could only get her to DRIVE!!!!!! 😀

I lured my mother to the PC with a Cable connection and the thought of an ongoing worlwide flea market... (ebay).

But now our house is filled with laserdiscs... 😀

That's great... lol, before you know it she'll be here linkifying for the lazy and yelling "pics" with everybody else 🙂

<< Awesome!

Put Win2k though, take off XP

What kind of a son are you, making your poor old mom use WinXP? 😉

It's easier to use for the "computer challenged" 😉

Seriously though, I haven't looked back to 2k once going to WinXP. And it has automatic updates and all that other shiznit. And my mom likes the interface. If it's easier for her, so be it.

what mouse movement stuff? 😕

do you mean the trailers?

Cool 🙂

Pretty soon she will be on these forums and scooping to become the 'Ace Reporter's Mom' 😉

Cheers,
Aquaman

That's pretty hype man..I can only imagine how you feel.

Luckily my mom is adept with comptuers...getting her to drive a 5-spd tho..whoa..now thats a tough one..but one day...one day she will learn!

<< ok now that you succeeded, what was your incentive? People just don't instantly start using computers 😉 >>

Incentive? She wanted to be able to keep track of current used/new DVD pricing and her invoices on Half.com. She buys and sells DVD's (for quite a decent profit I might add).

No, it feels like your mousepas is made of ice and you kind of skid along. i found something to turn it off supposedly when Winxp first came out but it didnt really turn it off just lessened it.

Mainly hated it cause i played alot of Counter-Strike, I'm a big gamer so it really messed me over.

There's nothing wrong with XP and it's actually good that she's comfortable using the latest OS.

Heh.. I gave my mom my old iMac. She's 61 and definitely "computer challenged", but she's actually doing quite well with it. Originally, she wanted to subscribe to AOL, but my brother and I easily talked her out of it: "What's wrong with AOL?" "First of all, they suck, and secondly, if you get AOL, neither of us will support you with it..." (that did it.)
