It says it's running on ata-100 under the bios. I don't think it's sts-100 I thought it was ata66, anyway, windows 2k is running it at PIO.

How would I change this?

Microsoft released a hotfix for this. Just download it from their site, and install it. They will release a better fix for this in Windows 2000 SP2. After you install this, Windows will still show the hard drive running in PIO mode, but it won't be. You can confirm this with a hard drive testing utility such as Sandra.

The performance of your hard drive won't be as good as Windows 98SE, but it is still good enough until the final fix is released.

I can't get to Microsoft's download center to give you the link (our server causes scripting errors there and at this site for that matter) but maybe someone else can post the link.

I have Windows 98SE and Windows 2000 SP1 and the mobo is K7M.
Maxtor 40.9g 7200rpm HD is in PIO mode on both o/s's (transfers @ 4.1mb/s!!)
and to make things worse Win98SE got really screwed up once I checked the
DMA box in the disk options.
Now I've got secondary IDE disabled in Win98 for if it's enabled system
simply will not reach Win98. Highly uncool.
What can I do?
What should I try?
I am about to lose my mind.
