My Maxtor Diamond Max Plus 60 is WHISTLING!

Yep, sure enough I think it needs to be sent back!

Interestingly enough, to see which disk (I have two of them striped on HPT 370) was the offender, I started by unplugging the molex power connectors. Not only I found which disk is (was) making all the racket, I was also greeted by a rather unusual windows error:

unknown hard error

I sent that one to Kyle!

After letting the machine initialise both disks for a minute, the access light went off and I was able to fire up photoshop and dump the clipboard. NO editing (other than cropping) was done!

As far as the drives go, looks like I'm going back to IBM and WDC for ATA disks.

Cheers!

This drive sounds terrible! It's starting to squeak more as I type this. Reminds me of the "squeakers" on disc brake pads to let you know it's time for replacement.

Cheers!

Hard error
HAH!
that's a little reminescent (sp?) of a certain base belonging to us or something?
Hard error for great justice
