Last night I download a movie on my windows pc i put it on my mac and it was originally a .avi file and when i tried to play it, it said "the movie can not be opened the file is not a movie file" so i changed the file type to .mov just by remaining it and it still wont play anyone know why?

get flip4mac? or divx? or vlc?

edit: you can't just change a extension and open the file with a new program. it has to be converted from one to the other.

Perian is also an option. It gives Quicktime the ability to open just about any kind of non-WMV file.

divx + flip4mac works just fine as well. i like it better than vlc personally, but i imagine either would work. all he really needs is the codec anyway.

okay i got everything you guys said to get and i still cant get this damn video to play WTF!!! i thought getting a mac would make my life easier!!

if both vlc and perian don't work... then it's using some weird ass codec... or corrupt... or it's secretly realmedia. try transferring again to make sure it's not corrupted... or if it's small enough, host it so one of us can try and try.

better yet, run g-spot on it on the windows machine and tell us what it says.
