Have you tried to load XP on it just for kicks? It works like a champ, and I did the install with the SATA fix. Pretty screaming Windows box so far. I plan on loading up After Effects and doing some Render speed tests on it against an E6600 at work.

Did you find your sony superdrive to be freakin loud though? Wonder why they dropped Pioneer and went with Sony?

Nice screen. Those Apple Cinema displays are hotness incarnate.

I'm not a big Mac fan, mostly because of the price (talking consumer-level hardware, not workstation-level like yours), the MBP is sleek and sexy, but not for $2800. Also, I don't like how enclosed and tight that MacPro case is, I like a big open space where I can see everything.

edit: What do you use that machine for, anyway?

I probably don't "need" this much power, as I do part time DV Editing for aviation safety (I'm a pilot by profession), but I like the fast workflow, and I love the OS X work environment.

I could have done fine with a high end iMac

I have it on a Partition but only booted into it once... I honestly have no use for XP right now, especially with it's 32-bit limits on memory use. I have it for emergency use, incase someone hands me some proprietary app that only works on PC to use for some odd reason.

The only time I hear the computer is when I load a CD or DVD.. you're right.
