I also wanna get myself a Gary Fong Lightsphere or fashion one myself, as I'm not liking the dark bags under people's eyes when I bounce my flash off the ceiling.

With an existing array of Canon EOS L lenses (5 of them) - that is not a good option. I already rejected replacing BOTH 5D's with a EOS 1DS MKII, but the large size of the battery pack killed that idea.

In the digital world, Canon is better than Nikon when it comes to lower noise in high ISO low light work. And the available lens array is better. Next time you watch a sporting event on TV, note that most of the long lenses around the playing area are white.

Not anymore. Check out real-world beta sample shots of Nikon D3. Even ISO 25,600 looks quite good.

for a camera that is out now? and beta sample shots. C'mon now, the Rebel XTi's shots made it seem like a Hassleblad with a 32MP digital back.

Have you actually seen the shots? ISO1600 is almost noise free. ISO3200 is incredibly good. ISO6400 a still very good. ISO12800 starts to exhibit the noise that I get with my 30D at ISO1600. ISO25600 is noisy, a bit noisier than my 30D at ISO3200.

the way you are talking about them seems like its another breakthrough like sliced bread. The clean ones seem a tad overexposed. That is the normal way of getting a clean look on any camera/sensor. Heck the 1DmkIII still impresses me at 3200, even with shadows.
I say they are on par.

a 7D and 3D would make sense. 3D with pro level AF and metering in a smaller body (without vertical grip), and 7D with the AF and metering from the 40D would be pretty rational. 7D would be a good counter to the D300, if they can keep it around $2000. which might be possible, with canon's new capability of making 35 mm sensors in 1 pass.

interesting about the in-body IS rumor. you'd think that with canon's new cheapo in-lens system they wouldn't be doing much on the in-body front. though, maybe a 500D would have it in 2009.

Actually, the 5D today does very well at ISO 3200. I do a lot of this type of shot using available light at concerts and festivals. Any undue noise here is really not apparent. I would love ISO 6400!

BTW - Fuzzy: The 580EX has a pull out reflector card you can bounce off of without using the ceiling. It is very handy - especially outdoors. It is right on the top of the flash with the wide angle spreader.

As stated, I didn't jump on that conclusion by looking at a few shots provided by Nikon.
Although D3 isn't officially out, there are more than hundreds of high ISO test shots done by professional/amateur photographers in various light settings.
And, Rebel XTi's sample shots never "made it seem like a Hassleblad with a 32MP digital back." If you thought so, you need to replace your eyes or brain that processes what your eyes see.
