My little girl has her first cold

Oh man does this suck. My 3 month old daughter has a cold. Thank God she aint running a fever. She just has a cough, runny nose, and a little congestion. We have been giving her some Tylenol cold for infants, but we cant give it to her too much because my wife has a cold also and she is taking tylenol cold and nursing.(Yes you can do that) It just pains me that i cant do anymore for her than to just suck out her nose. I'm just getting over a cold also. Being stationed at Guam and not being in the cold winters for a year and a half, you really forget about the clod and flu season.

What are some good things yall do that seems to speed up getting over a cold besides the usuall cold medicine for my wife and kid?

The usual cold medicine has nothing to do with speeding up the curing of a cold, it simply helps relieve symptoms.

you could try some of that hippie stuff, vitamins and echinchea(sp), etc..

Ginger juice (fresh if possible) and honey works wonders for my family. Its hard on the taste buds but I rarely have a cold last more than a day or two.

Forgot to mention, mix them together and put in a lot more honey than juice to account for the age factor.

I feel your pain, MrYAK. (Lots of the kiddies here have no idea, so just ignore them!)

The fact that she is nursing will help a lot. She should let her nurse on demand for the duration of the cold, and yes, watch how much meds you give her because she is getting some in the milk, too.

My youngest is 5 1/2 now and I still use the Vicks humidifyer regularly... pour a pit of the inhalant mix into the reservoir and we are good to go.

Assuming your wife can stay home, this should pass by quickly and she will just get a stronger immune system as a side effect. 🙂

Why do I get a visual of a greasy haired, pimply faced, social misfit when I read that? 😛

lol ok. sentiments retracted. and youre wrong about the physical description, btw. 😛 i think its because my parents never let me stay home from school unless i was missing limbs that i tend to disparage other peoples' sicknesses.

Fair enough. 🙂 My husband would have made a comment like that when we were younger and I would have shot him down for it too, lol... keeps things interesting. 😀

As a side note, though... I'm sure your parents are fine people, but as a teacher it drives me nuts when parents send sick kids to school!!!! OMG, the kids will be in the cafeteria and someone will puke, and it sets off a chain reaction... 😛 But then again, not everyone has the luxury of being able to keep the kids home when they are sick. I stayed home with them when they were little and my husband can telecommute when he needs to, so we have been very fortunate.

I know how you feel Lt, i always wanted to stay home all Ferris Bueller style, but no. Mom yelling at me, "You can be sick at school! Now get in the car!!"

Welcome to the world , now you will get her cold . Funny how this works , a child gets the sniffles and shakes it of,the adult has to call in sick ect . Love does it all . along with CHICKEN SOUP . 🙂😉

Remember to follow the direction of the infant tylenol carefully, children die because parts give them too much thinking it is the same as the adult one.

Chicken soup made with love:heart:

And yeah, we make sure to keep track of how much they both are taking and giving her less, becasue my wife is nursing and her meds can leak in to the milk.
