My life on AT.

Back in '99 a friend of mine pointed out this site. He said it was a great place to find deals on computer parts. I looked around the forums, and saw a web based chat room, which didn't appeal to me. However, I did see many thought out articles on computer hardware, which kept me coming back daily.

I spent a little over year just reading articles, and occasionally checking out Hot Deals, looking for stuff I wanted, but did not need. I came across Russ, RossMAN and PAB. With their guidance, I have finely honed by Ferengi ways, but I have yet to come close to their overwlming ability to get something for nothing. I started posting hot deals I came across on the web, which got me in hot water, but who the hell cares. My wallet is still light because of the HD forum.

Then, because I was buying so much stuff for cheap, I started amassing a decnt computer collection. Parting them out on the FS/FT forum gave me mroe money do buy more stuff, so off I went with many members assistance, such as Oakenfold, I started assisting the comunity selling static bag sets at cost for the FS/FT group before the mods shot that down. (Aww poopie) Heck, Roadraider, Huntress, and I got together and made a foray into a nearby state to help a fellow AT'er in financial trouble. We brought over 13 hundred dollars with us, donated by the FS/FT and OT Froums to help his family. Proof positive of the comradare of AT.

Of course there's the Distributed Computing forum. I found people who enjoyed searching for ET among other things, and I signed up so that I may converse with them. That was way back in February of 2001. For many moons I just lurked in the shadows of this forum, just interjecting here and there, trying to get a feel for how AT worked. I met many people in the DC forum; Rattledagger, armed with a cane RaySun2Be and his rascal rider, Shuxclams, OhioDude, Crazee, Russ, IsOs, Smoke<ball>, Tarca, CyGoR, Engineer, Sukhoi, BadThad, Bleep, CurtOien Panhead49, Serialb, Assimilator, Conjur, LANMAN, Networkman, Freewolf, lobadobadingdong (I hope I spelled that right), and oh so many more. A few I treasure as true friends. You know who you are.

Then a suggestion was made in FI about a Highly Technical Forum. Here were the posts that brought out the people who have computers in their heads, and know more about Fabbing a CPU than Jerboy knew about complaining. Here, my true love came out, the one for math and physics. I meaningful discussion on water cooled homes, and the coefficient of friction come out of the woodwork. My kinda stuff.

On one of my forays switching between the DC and Hot Deals forums, I hit the Off Topic Forum. Here I found people like NFS4, LAUST, Roger, Canted Valve, JC, Wingznut and others who share my enthusiasm for the Internal Combustion Engine. In addition, posts about non-computer related stuff abound, stretching my mind and my horizons. Only in OT would I find that the tithe for Christians should be %10 of their income, and that Adul is really a guy. Well, at least I am pretty sure. Then we had our lovable Den Mother WW, who I still think about on occasion. Such writing skills. Come back to us WW, we need you! OF course, OT wouldn't be OT, without the impression of those such as Jerboy, Dennilfloss, Syringer, Minendo, Red Dawn, Baffled2 (GeekBabe), Confused, Zim, Rallispec, MartyMcFly, HappyPuppy, BingBongWongFooey, Aphex, Chaotic42, FoBot, Kelvrick, AMDFanBoy, MachaelD, ElFenix, Scoorb, Ameesh, thomsbrain, Gopunk,Zugzwang152, LordMaul, Aquaman, NTB, and many others. The OT forum is defined by words such as Nef, OMG!, st@b, j00, all your base, Shmabbles, and many others.

Along the way, a political forum was created. After about 3 intelegant posts, that went to hell, so I have no story about that place. *shudder*

So here I am. Evadman. Post number 20,000. when I first started, 1000 posts was crazy. 10,000 seemed totally out of the question, and 20,000 would require ElFenix's keyboard skills. I just stopped caring about my postcount, and still don't care. But hey, 20,000 is a nice round number. As we all know, wierd things happen around round numbers. Hmmm.

Thanks AT.

I totally missed this thread..

Congrats on your 20K post Evadman!!

Well, as far as I can understand your 'addiction' to this great community, I personally try to avoid a few other forums in here..
Not because I don't like it there, but because I'll be ending up spending to much time here and to less time being busy with school ;)
Maybe it's a good thing I live in Europe, so those FS/T forum won't take my time...

Anyway, nice to see you posting in the DC forum again, the place that got everything started most of the DC people
