They're only $1000 nowadays (well sometimes)...but I suppose that is a lot. Oh and for games/pc monitor it is sick

1280x768 (using Powerstrip to get the proper resolution). Both DVI and VGA look equally as nice.

hehe, then definitely don't build a 1TB Raid5 Media server like me too lol. Still have 250gb free...and as you can see I have 144 movies and 15gb of mp3's on it so far =)

I already have my 20" widescreen LCD, which I think would work quite nicely with the MCE thing (I also live in a dorm room). Now I just have to try to figure out if it's worth the money...

Yeah HDTV is nice, though I only get OTA through my ATI HDTV Wonder---which has some issues with stuttering etc. Have yet to try HD through the cable (since I don't have that yet), but DVDs look great.

Yeah, that's what I'd been thinking. However I already have WinXP Pro, so I'm not so sure it would be worth spending $130 just for MCE, in addition to whatever other hardware I'd already be buying.

Also, you mention some stuttering issues with the HDTV Wonder, could you be more specific perhaps? That's one of the HD tuners I've been looking at getting.

The ATI HDTV Wonder isn't bad and fairly cheap now ($100 or so), just you need to make sure you have a good antenna/reception otherwise you will get some stutter. I get good % reception but I get stutter still. Probably doesn't help I have an indoor antenna and this is in the bottom floor of the house. A nice outdoor one would probably work fine. Also people have had issues installing it with MCE, but if you check out the big thread on it at avsforum in the HTPC forum, you can find more info.

Overall I like it for what it does, but imho I wish HD through cable worked with MCE (and rumors are by the end of the year, there will be cablecard solutions/add ons). Then I'd be in heaven with truly DVDs, movies, HD TV all integrated.

..looks good. Do the side speakers come off?? I'd like to get one without the side or under speakers..just a straight video monitor for my dvd's..don't even care about a tuner.

Well, using an outdoor antenna is really not an option for me, living in a dorm and all. Even when I'm back at home we would still just use an indoor antenna really. HDTV over cable isn't a concern for me either (and likely will never be), strictly OTA.

Yeah they come off easily. I'm using my PC speakers now, but eventually will hook them up to my Onkyo 760's. Also it is wall-mountable etc .

My friend bought it, let me borrow it, and he just returned it. Overall, it ends up being a gimmick. Software is somewhat unreliable and such, plus it is all software based. Overall, I'd purchase one of the multitude of proven HDTV cards before the ATI.

Also I'll try to remember to take some pics of my SVGA projector during the superbowl. When given a HD signal it looks amazing even though it SVGA. And to think I got it for $150 after rebates/coupons/price match just a couple of weeks ago.

So $1200 for the LCD TV and the projector total
(I hope the deal gods won't smite me now for my bragging).

Wow...didn't realize it was quite that bad (for some people at least). The only hardware card I know of is the MyHD one, which is more expensive, but perhaps it's worth it.
