In a rational world, people are willing to listen to those who know the most about a particular subject and that translates into a society being guided by its best and brightest.

What is different now in this age of "popularism" is that too many people believe that their opinions are just as good/valid/informed as the recommendations coming from experts. Or even better -- thanks to the mistrust spread by conspiracy mongering political "news organizations" that encourage them to believe whatever they want. If scientists cannot explain the "big bang" or evolution to you in a way that you are convinced it is true, then you are entitled to conclude that they are lying to you for some nefarious reason. If you find it plausible that mask wearing and the vaccine are tools for implementing a new world order then you can behave as if COVID is a hoax.

The only way out of this situation is for the general public to once again recognize that our individual judgments on matters we know little about are likely to be wrong and that each of us should put more stock in what the good intentioned experts suggest to us.

They see it as voting for their party, not for Trump. But that is the problem, is it's not about Country, right or wrong, it's all about the Party. Party comes first, when in reality, it should come last. If decisions where made with country/people/constitution/right/wrong at heart, we would be in a much better, stronger place as a country and as people than where we are at.
