Hello, I've come to the conclusion that the bios on my laptop is bad, and right now i have no idea how to install one if my current one doesn't even work. does anyone have any suggestions?

how old is the board? what kind of board is it? what makes you think the BIOS is bad? can you rma the board?

well, my laptop is a 1.1ghz p3 toshiba 1805-s274 it was made in march of '02 and when ever i turn on the laptop you can here the floppy drive click and thats it, nothing comes up on the screen, i've tried the video out too. It can play cds just fine and according to toshiba if it can play cds with the music playing device the mother board isn't bad. So i came to the conclusion that it was the bios because thats what usually comes right after the floppy drive.

I'm not able to enter anything, besides being able to play cds, the reason i came up with that the bios is bad is because nothing comes up after the floppy drive makes its sound, and i've been told that the mother board is ok, i've tried other ram and hard drives too.

hrmmm... What did the manufacturer suggest? if the floppy is checking for a disk u might be able to boot off some kind of rescue disk. If that fails u may need to replace the bios chip. As far as doing that on a laptop, u are on your own. I hate working on those freakin things.

Nada..When you hit the powerbutton, The BIOS is the first thing that gets fired up. After POST, It then searches for an opertating system from either the floppy, HDD, CD-rom, Network, etc. And not neccesarily in that order. Does that machine POST when you hit the powerbutton(Flash information about the hardware or show a Toshiba splash screen)? If you are able to play cd's then I would have to think that the BIOS is not the problem. The cd playing should actually be started/operated by the BIOS. Do you hear a windows startup chime at anytime? Do you get anything at all on the screen at anytime?

i'm bettin' hard drive. try puting a bootable floppy in and see what happens.
