My laptop(t40) function as USB 1.1 instead USB 2.0, the laptop was
installed windows xp with sp2 and all the newest driver including BIOS
from IBM website.
Anybody knows is it a software or hardware problem?

Is the ting your connecting to the USB port a 2.0 or 1.1 device?

Sorry to be the one to tell you but this is a known issue w/ the T-series. It's not exactly acting like a 1.1 it just won't transfer like a 2.0.. I discovered this after I got an iPod and was using my T-42 to rip CDs. I've updated the bios, usb drivers, service-packs, yadda yadda but it wouldn't transfer the files to my player. I've gone to countless message-boards w/ this problem and always find LOTS of company.. the only way I've heard around it is to RMA the mb but I've also heard from many that have gone this route that it still didn't fix their problem. - I've also tried using a powered pcmcia USB card (2.0) and this was fruitless as well. - so far the only thing I've found about the T-series that sux a$$.

Hmmmm... I've had multiple of every T-series.... and we have hundreds in our environment at work.....

USB ports have never posed a problem in use..... Though I might ask - Is this your machine or your employers? I ask because we are looking at deploying software on our systems to restrict the use of USB ports among our users - this would prevent USB storage devices from working with our systems unless they are deemed "trusted" device by device. - This is for security.

I should clarify.. It's not that it won't transfer files (my USB flash-drive works fine), it won't transfer files fast enough for an iPod. The iPod shows up in iTunes but the iPod library is greyed out and when trying to drag/drop it's unresponsive (no "+" sign). - not gonna do the research (again) but Google "IBM USB iPod iTunes blah blah" and see what you come up w/ - again, I'm not only going by my experience but by LOTS of other users and IBM support themselves. - RMA your mb and you'll prolly have a fix but I just don't feel like doing that

to answer WackyDan - no, it's not part of our image. But we are working on a solution like what you describe. Like I/you said flash-drives, external USB drives, etc work all to well.. just not an iPod/iTunes.

ok,someone says that it's becuase one of the chipset(intel 845) doesn't function as it suppose to be,and that reduce the USB speed to 1.1.
IS THAT RIGHT?
