My laptop + PSP stolen

Plus, in the trunk, they're usually covered under your auto insurance. Out in the open, you have to claim on home owners or renters insurance.

Sorry for your loss. 🙁

on a totally different note... can someone help me reformat this laptop i found and tell me what good psp games are out lately?

That sucks dude. Funny how quick people are to blame you around here. Yeah, you shouldn't leave valuables in the car. on the other hand, it was some shitcock that actually stole the stuff.

Topic Title: My laptop + PSP stolen
Topic Summary: From Car in Parking Lot near Home

That's horrible news on a holiday no less AkumaX, but by chance did you purchase the lappy and/or PSP on a CC that offers theft protection, just a thought.

I don't know what kind of hippy world all you people defending the OP live in. But on one level or another it's human nature to steal. Even in upper-middle class Beaver Cleaver suburbs you know deep not to leave your valuables in plain sight inside the car. Not saying OP "deserved" what happened, but I'm sure he knows better.

Sucks.

Your only solution is to buy another laptop and put a tracking chip in it. Leave it in your car again in plain sight. Hopefully the same guy who stole it last time will steal it again. Then you can call the cops. And if someone else steals it, at least it will make you feel like you are a crime fighter.

EDIT: If he finds the tracking chip, the criminal simply outsmarted you because you didn't hide it well enough. Then it'd be best cut your losses.

let me guess, you were as dumb as my friend who left his laptop (not even in a bag) sitting on his car seat. I seriously HATE people who take living in a safe neighborhood like mine for granted. Yeah, my friend who left his laptop on the seat never got broken into, but then again we came from a rich neighborhood where crime is extremely low. My HS friends leave crap in my car all the time no matter where we go. What pisses me off is they still dare to do that when we're in ghettoass collegetown of mine in Berkeley. I yell sometimes for people to put their crap in the trunk and just because we're stopping for some quick In-n-Out doesn't mean it's safe.

Sucks for the OP but leaving goods in the car is asking for it.

Just like throwing a college party and letting random strangers come into your house and wander through the bedrooms. The local police around here have their hands full every Monday with girls and boys crying about some "strange guy I don't know who showed up at the party" making off with their Macbooks and iPhones because they were too busy playing beer pong to notice some thug rifling through her bedroom.

Hey guys, thanks for all the good (and bad) comments. Making someone feel stupid is also a way of teaching someone a lesson 😛 (that of course, along with the "experience" of stolen goods as well)

Not really trying to make any excuses for what I did (there is NO excuse for leaving valuables in a car), but if you want to hear a little more about it:

- Car usually parked inside garage, but I moved it outside so my grandmother-in-law could have plenty of space to park in the garage
- Car was probably out for about 4 hrs (from 10am to 2pm)
- Car was rummaged through, they didn't just see expensive stuff on the seats or anything
--- I had my small 9" laptop in a messenger back almost underneath my drivers seat, with PSP in armrest compartment
- Called Police, they took down everything. In a surprising turn of events,
--- they opted to drive down to my place and see if they could fingerprint my car.
--- They were able to get prints off the door, but I think most of them were mine anyway, except for 1 finger.

In any case, I kept wanting to install LogMeIn, but kept putting it off. INSTALL LOGMEIN on your laptop, could save some headache!
- LogMeIn is like Remote Desktop, but it logs the IP address in their website whenever the laptop gets access to the internet.
- You have access to your computer wherever it may be if its on (of course, this requires the laptop to not be formatted, etc...)

I'm waiting for a thread to be started, "Talk about a crazy BF deal - laptop + PSP for FREE OTD, no rebates/coupons!"

The uncaring AT'ers out in full force...

Mate this stuff sucks ass.

Some f0cking moron stole a car wheel, took the wing mirrors off a total of 4x, smashed window and snapped the aerial in my old car...the car wheel was off when I was at home in in the space of about 3hrs tops. From about 6-9pm!!!

Koing

I just heard from my mom that my sister's car also got broken into earlier this week. No details though.
