My laptop keeps making this beeping noise

It just started beeping after I switched cable modems. But when I unplug the pcmcia network card, it still beeps. When I mute my speakers, it obviously stops...anyone know what could be causing this?

Seriously, the manual for my lappy tells what the "beep" codes mean. What brand/laptop do you have?

the only time I've had mine beep at is when the battery is low. Many that's what it is and the other thing is just a coincidence

Gateway solo 9300. It just started doing this after I switched modems! And it does it every 10 seconds. Argh...I might reinstall win2k because it's driving me insane.

Burnt, how old is the lappy, as if it's still under the "warranty" period, perhaps the time would be better spent that here on AT, just a thought.

If the beep is at exact intervals, the modem/NIC may be polling for a connection.
Put everything back the way it was to see if the problem is the modem or the PC itself
