My Laptop has 3 IPs. Something is reserving 2 IPs.

Hi, sysadm is bugging me again.
I use a laptop at work. When I connect to the lan connection, sysadm sees that there are 3 IPs under my user name(there should only be one). In the applcation he uses, two of the IPs showing have some kind of telepone icons attached in the display.

I've run spy bot S/D. It's clean. I've updated my anti-virus definition and do a complete scan. It's clean.

I've really limited the application that'll run at start-up. I use ZoneAlarm Pro firewall. So I've only authorized the applications I trust to make outgoing or recieve incoming connections.

I don't have this problem with my lan/wireless connection at home.

I use win 2000. When I right-click on my computer, manage -> system information -> component -> network, I can't access adapter, protocol or winsock. It says "failed to connect. check if the network path is correct. and if I have the privilege". But I already logged in as sysadm.

Is there any applcation/util that I can use to check what's requesting those 2 additional IPs?

Please help!

How many network cards do you have ? Do you have any VPN software ?

Also, type ipconfig /all and paste the results.

I have two connections. One is LAN(built-in NIC), which has problem. The other is wireless(PCMIA card), which has no problem.

I have cisco VPN software installed. But it's not loaded at start up. And I don't use it. Let me know if I need to reveal more infomation that are hidden below.

This is the ipconfig output when I use my wireless connection only. My user name isn't assigned multiple IPs.

Just a guess...but those icons generally represent that the IPs are being issued to an RRAS client...check your services and make sure RRAS is not running....

I don't have RRAS service installed.

It turns out that the same problem exists with both my lan connection and wireless connection.

THe key is that if I log on the novell network at work, my username gets 3 IPs. Otherwise, I just get 1 IP.

any clue?

Where is it assigned multiple IPs ? Would you mind sharing them if they start with 192. or 10. ?

The 2 additional IPs don't show up in ipconfig output.

Only sysadmin sees them in his software(DHCP management software??) . Basically, he sees that my user name reserves 3 IPs. He can only ping the one that's shown in my ipconfig output. The other 2 can't be pinged.

The DHCP server assigns the same IP to the same network device(mac address). For the two bogus IPs, the associated mac addreeses contain the MAC address of my LAN network card, plus some characters inserted in the front and some others inserted in the end. So I think those mac addresses are also bogus.
