my lan connection keeps getting unplugged

I think he was partially commenting on the amazing lack of helpful details in your post. In fact, you don't even ask for help, just simply make a statement.

Change the cable, try a different port on the router. Check the router logs, is the router rebooting when you loose connection?

Are you still able to access the network when that message comes up? I've had similar experience with an XP Pro machine connected to a W2K domain. However, it will connect if I manually did a sync. I remember there's a KB article at MS that solves this but I don't have me log book here at home

Get rid of MS Windows and install Linux. I guarantee you that you'll never see a pop-up saying that your network cable is unplugged (simply because Linux doesn't have silly/helpful pop-ups like that)

Not really, I'll be the first to admit that Linux is not for everyone or everything. I use Windows to play games and use office when I get a file from someone else.
My comment is more toward trying to make fun of the annoying pop-ups in windows xp from the taskbar. Or atleast I thought I was making fun of em.

Here's some topics on the same issue. Maybe u'll be able to find some usefull information in 'em. Actually the most common point of view is that the overheating of the router is responsible for this strange behavior. Placing your router in a better ventilated place might partially solve ur problem.

Force 10 Mb half duplex on your system's NIC. You have a good example of a duplexing conflict. We have a floor that actually had 10 Mb hubs up until a couple of months ago. Used to get that all the time as the machines were refreshed and the NIC defaulted to Auto. Once you forced 10 Mb half the connectivity problems stopped. May be something else as mentioned. Cable, port etc.. but it's worth a shot changing the NIC speed and duplex settings.
