Why do you name your mp3 folders with underscores? You know, windows has supported spaces for a long time.

Because they're pirated.

lol

naming files with underscore's is good practice, for the times one isnt using Windows. Engineers are prolly just used to doing that.

I remember when Altec Lansings speakers ruled the PC roost.....got a 2.1 setup with a Dell PC about 6 years ago i think it was......amazing speakers, good quality, with a proper subwoofer (meaning it reached 20hz, a lot of so called subs only hit 35hz and are just bass speakers in boxes). Seriously never heard anything to beat them till the more recent Klipsch type speakers......

However i've finally built up a a decent high quality speaker system for 5.1......with an REL Strata5 subwoofer....oh lord does this thing make waves......it can take most M&K and Cerwin Vega type subwoofers and hang them out to dry!.....it hits a cexy 16hz, has a downward firing 10in bass driver and internal 150watt MOSFET amp 🙂
the other speakers arnt bad either...lol
oh and the cutest thing, it has a remote control for its hi and low level connections with a funky blue 4 digit LED on the front 🙂

I'm sorry, your Altec Lansing speakers came nowhere near 20Hz

True that. Hell, my Athena As-p400 100watt RMS (400peak) 10'' sub can only hit 23 Hz at 3dB, and, realistically, it can only maintain a low of 27-30 Hz?

NO WAY IN HELL that anything from Dell can do that. That said, I used to have a 4.1 v. 1 Promedia set and although the bass was nice and tight, it only did about 35hz?just LOUDLY. I had a friend who had the 5.1s, and although their horns were fantastic, the bass was nothing special.

This was from about 6 years ago and it was with a premium priced package, the sub had an 8in long throw driver in a cast steel chassis. and it did make 20hz, i know because i run a series of signal tests through it at various frequencies.
True Sub Bass frequencies can only be achieved by a driver between 8 and 15in in size, smaller and it just isnt capable of reproducing that kind of sound, larger than 15in a driver cannot physically control itself to reproduce the frequencies properly.
I have an REL Quake sub (as well as my Strata5) with 100watt MOSFET amp with an 8in driver, that happily hits 16hz.........these are true sub bass systems....i suggest u check their website, rel.net

edit: btw, just in case anyone here still thinks wattage (on an amp) indicates volume, it doesnt. The combination of sensitivity w/d/m and ohms rating of the speaker and wattage of the amp all together give you how loud a speaker is capable of being driven. More wattage simply indicates the ability to drive the speakers accurately at a given level. You could run a 200watt amp into an extremely demanding pair of standmount size speakers that only go to normal household volume levels, yet use up most of that 200watts in doing so but sound astounding.....or you could run a pair of cheaply made club size speakers with the same 200watts, only needing halfway round the volume control to get them to excessive volume levels......but they sound a bit naff from an audiophile view.

Quick n00b question for fellow Ultra owners... how the hell can you tell the diff between + and - polarities on the wires? Makes no mention of it in manaul. Thanks 🙂

How many dB down was it when it got to 20? I don't doubt that it was doing something at 20hz, but I have a hard time believing it has significant output down to 20hz. Did you just send it signals or did you send it singnals and test with an SPL meter to see what the actual output was?

My SVS can only do 18 (-3db) or so without room gain... and about 15-ish with.

i honestly cant remember now, was a long time ago...lol...and yes i was using a sound pressure level meter that was correctly weighted etc.....

it was a truly marvelous piece of kit, i was myself extremely surprised when i got it out of the box and hooked it up, altho the weight alone told me it wasnt some cheap bit of tat...even the satellites had fantastic sound quality, more in the midrange tho, the treble as they were single driver units was a little bit dull, but they had terrific volume ability. im trying to remember the model number now, havnt had them for 2 years, gave them to an ex to use in her flat......

my REL subs tho, oh wow, they are just beautiful, the bass from them is just so well defined no matter how complicated the track.....or movie for that matter.

edit: btw YOyoYOhowsDAjello, i like in your sig, Bose is crap.....lol

One side is orange striped, I believe. It's in the manual if you read hard enough.
It took all day for me to hook them up, get them working right and find a good utilty for playback.
Klipsch/turtle beach/foobar worked out after a bit of pain.

that's cause foobar is a pain, i still don't see why people waste their time with such an ugly audio player

I'd like to take a look at them if you can find the model number. Sounds like they don't make computer speakers like they used to if there was once a set that went down to 20hz 🙂.

Just trying to do my part to keep people away from bose and monstercable. There are enough people trying to get you to buy them hehe.

solid black goes into black
dashed black goes into red.

Is it worth upgrading to these speakers from the klipsch promedia 4.1s?
I've been tempted.

it has 2 8" subs, sweet control system and one more speaker.

if you have the extra money then do it, if not then save your money.
