We had a threat of a £104 cleaning bill a couple of weeks ago, and the 2 guys who made most of that mess ^^ did almost nothing to help. Luckily we cleaned it up enough (it was fairly spotless about 2 weeks ago, but it's an impossible battle).

So... NEVER share with people you don't know.

Wow!

During exam times last year, I cleaned my whole kitchen (though not even half the mess there) and it was shared between me and three others. That took ages to do (but the again, I wanted it to 😉)

BTW, what uni is that? PM me if you don't wanna answer in public.

Luckily I have just one roommate, who is pretty clean. Our kitchen isnt exatcly spotless, but its all on me since Im the one making the mess.

Nottingham Uni (in the UK).
It takes maybe a couple of good hours to clean up, but there's no point because within a few days it's a mess again.

Looks like more than just one of you is "very messy".

Actually of the 6 of us, only one makes a mess, but he has all his friends over who end up helping trash the place.
When there's 5 of us it's fine, but the 6th starts making a mess and using other peoples stuff, and then everyone gets apathetic and gives up because of him.

I shared a house with up to 5 roommates. The only thing that works is this:
Take all the silverware, and dishes and put them in a box and store them somewhere.
Leave 1 frying pan, a mixing bowl, 1 cookie sheet, 1 small and 1 large pot, 1 large serving spoon, and 2 or three knives.
Then go to costco and buy a box of plastic, forks, spoons, and knives. Those 16 oz red plastic cups, and paper plates and bowls.
Because there si just one of each, if anyone uses something to cook, no one else can cook until it is cleaned. So the people that clean after themselves are fine, and the people that don't can't deny it is their mess.
Once you don't have dishes piling up, the rest is easier to keep clean.
After a few months, if you want to, everyone can get a real bowl and plate to eat from. They all should be different, and everyone should only use their own. If there is a problem with dishes again, you will know who is to blame, and you can make them go back to the paper bowls and plates.

Really that is nothing. My old place (living with 5 other guys) was a dump. Let's just say there were mushrooms growing around the toilet. And not the happy mushrooms.
