Maybe that is why it is playing messed up? Does you card support playing and recording at the same time?

My itunes plays faster when there is another source of audio playing. Like if you're watching a movie while playing itunes, or if some website has that annoying background music.

Are you running iTunes 7? If so I have the same problem when I run another app with sound.

I get all kinds of funky errors with itunes 7 if my cpu is working hard or I have another app running w/sound.

iTunes 7 is pretty much a buggy pile of crap... There's loads of stories about it all over.

Press the "turbo" button on you PC. Itunes must not have been designed to run with the clock multiplier.

I always try to use different music players, Itunes, WMP, but I always go back to the original, Winamp.. even though its bought out by AOL.
