I'd actually consider getting this at home, but for some reason I haven't been billed by Rogers for a year so I'm not about to make them take notice of my account. :p

Meanwhile I am stuck with Verizon DSL @ 3Mbps. Why can't they 1) Bring FIOS to my DC address, or 2) Give their DSL a speed bump up to 8.0Mbps like Earthlink?

Max around here is about 8Mb on DSL - most providers here picked DSL over cable as their preferred technology, but it looks like US/Canadian cable is now passing us by...

Damn, what company? I haven't seen anything like that advertised.

Rogers is still worthless with their "Traffic Shaping". 18 mbps and 1 mpbs up would be great if you could actually use it for bit-torrent. I'm afraid I end up being a leach for most things :S

They've still got a ways to go. FIOS offers 30Mbps down/5Mbps up for $100/month. We'll see if Verizon will kick up the speed once cable starts getting close, speed wise. I see a lot of talk about download speeds, what are the upload speeds? Upload is pretty dang important to me too.

My town sucks. Our best plan is Suddenlink (used to be Cox). $60 for 480 KB/s down, 60KB/s up.

If you upload at max bandwidth (60KB/s) for an hour, they shut off your connection and you have to call in to reset your modem.
Bit torrent won't run above 3KB/s even on Linux distros.
If you download a large video file, it crawls to sub 100KB/s.

So painful.

The next best option is DSL with a max speed of 256KB/s.

I do not look forward to leaving my dorm's 25Mbit connection this summer.

what good are these numbers if you will never ever see a d/l at 18mb......

Also what good is having an up[load of 1mb if you never see it????

Most people don`t need these insane speeds for any p[ractical purpose!!

Now of your a gamer possibly having these speeds would be nice but still its all about the upload....for gamers!

Gamers don't even need those speeds. Except for updates, gaming doesn't transfer as much data as people think. What you need is low ping times, not fast data transfer. I know a few people who game on dial-up with no problem, except for the occasional 8 hour update.

Those speeds are nothing for cable in all honesty. It just takes time for them to get the new gear.

Well, I've got 10mb and I use all of it often. Just b/c you don't have a use for it does not mean others don't.

But I would much rather an upgrade to the upload speed than an upgrade to download at this point. 2 hours to upload some photos I took for printing is silly.
