ok for all you microatx fans out there. I posted that i built a system with this case in hot deals and a member asked for pics, so i took some. they are at.

link

anyways...

this case is pretty nice. especially for $40. you get a 180watt p4 certified power supply (this isnt bad at all, i used to work in an OEM plant, and well some p4's use 130 watt power supplies and run ok).

Anyways, the case is pretty cramped. its about 13.5"tall by 13" by deep 5.2" wide. It can hold basically one cdrom , one hard drive and one floppy. Has 2 usb ports in the front. Anyways... i used a p4 1.6A northwood in there, and there is just barely enough clearance for the retail fan. i'd say about 1/3". It cools it amazingly well, as the power supply sucks out right next to the fan, and has an exhaust out the back, and on the side . its a proprietary power supply btw, and its louder than both the intel retail heatsink and the exhaust fan). the case also has a 60mm exhaust fan. having tried my 1.6 A at 2.13 it overheats in this case and fails prime95, but not with the case cover off. thus this is not an overclockers case.

the cdrom is pretty hard to get into there, but once you get it in its all good, and you have to route your cables around or else airflow will suck or you wont be able to get your drives in. I dont know if it'd be too bright an idea to put a 10000+ rpm scsi drive in this, but my 5400 rpm 20 gig maxtor seems to be running fine (its a 40 gig platter single head model, so its pretty fast and super quiet). seems like a pretty nice case for almost anyone who doesnt need too many drives or cards. On another note, its nice that the cdrom is above the cards, so you can fit a full length card like a gf4 ti4600 in there. the card in the pic is a gf4mx440 and there is plenty of room for a longer card.

anyways figured this might help some people who are looking for a nice microatx case. As far as i know only newegg and pcclub sell this. they both only have the gray blue metallic front like i have, or the plain plastic gray front one. supposedly there are black ones, and other colors, but i dont know where to get those

no temp problems, i mean even with just a thermal pad, i'm really amazed. Using an ECS l4s5mg. newegg used to sell that its the same as the shuttle ms51n also. i've seen the casper yeong yang case, at pcclub. it looks nice also, i only saw the charcoal one. its expensive though like $70-80. layout is basically the same though. vertical cdrom and all.

Cool, thanks for sharing the info! The blue and gray colors are both carried by techstore.com too, comes out about the same with shipping. So the PSU fan is somewhat loud, then? Would it blend in with an office environment?

Also, with the heat dissipation numbers, did you mean 52W at 2.13GHz, or 72W?

well i estimated. there isnt a real 2.13 , but i saw that the 2.2 puts out about 52.6 W in intel's docs. The fan isnt that loud, i'm used to using a laptop, so i guess i'm not used to it yet. i'd say about 30dba max on the power supply fan. its a little bit louder than the intel retail p4 fan

Check out what this guy did to his L545 (3/4th of the page down)
He even got an XP1700+ & a GF3 running in there with the stock 180w PSU!:Q

nice review hans. Good to know that the retial HSF can fit under there and the a 180w PSU has no problem handling a 2.1GHz+ CPU!:)

ok my cpu never overheated, it hasnt even gone above 45C in there with as3 on the retail fan (fan is only 2500rpm) with rc5 running 2 days straight. but it needs the pin mod to get it to 1.7 volts, since apparently it reboots like every 2 days randomly, and crasheds prime95 inlike 2minutes. but well it didnt really heat up the case.

ok after doing the pin mod to get my CPU up to 2.133 1.65 volts, and it still crashing in prime 95, i took the case cover off and cdrom out and it was rock solid in prime95. i even also trie da coolermaster di4-7h53d (better louder heatsink) and it also failed

so anyways this case is not good for ocing , but its very nice looking

I have the same case...

I have severe cooling problems also. I cant get Vcore to stock specifications with the 180W PSU also.

check my rig.

Have you guys considered installing slot coolers under your video cards? Just by the touch, I can tell it's helping a lot because of all the hot air it pushes out.

My case
Other Components: 1.2ghz Athlon TB
MSI MS-6380M Pro5
Seagate 40gb @ 5400rpms
AGP: MSI GF3 TI200
PCI: Slot Cooler
PCI: Linksys NIC
PCI: SB Live Value
60mm 21CFM exhaust fan

I can't report any temps because this particular motherboard doesn't have any temp monitoring features. sorry:eek:

the vcore is hard to keep right but well, its like that on a lot of power supplies. the cooling problems keep it from being a great o/cing case. i think maybe if i put a duct there maybe, but i dont really want to i'm lazy

I was considering getting one of those slot fans. Whats the best brand or are they all the same, and how much will one usually run you?

I have AOC FC-2000-B Slot Cooler. It claims to push 42CFM. I bought it for $10.99 at a local mom & pops computer shop. I also saw the same slot cooler at frys for $5.99 reg $8.99. I don't think the brand matters, most of them have the same specs except the choice for Sleave and Ball bearing. My is a ball bearing.

well whatever cooler it is, its got to be able to bring in cold air into that pocket under the cdrom drive.

So I bought a slot cooler, it seems to help a tad bit, but my radeon 8500DV is still running quite hot. I wonder if i should put a 486 cooler with fan on the back of the tv tuner? Or just put a big 80mm on top of it...
