recently,
i am staying at various friend's places where they also have "high-speed" internet.
I am curious because i want to hook up my desktop too as well as my gf's notebook.
When we talk "what internet do you have ? (cable/dsl?)" i always get an answer like
"well it's blahblah internet" BUT ITS VERY FAST.
So...i am doing my standard speedtests usually and it turns out it's 384/128 (sometimes even 384/96) - dont get me wrong, i am glad that my friends have internet and offer us to hook up - but 384/96 is fvcking SLOW.
(I am coming from IL and spent $42/month for 6000/384 comcast..which i think is a lot but it was worth it, at least for a gamer/geek like me. Now up to 5 people try to share a 384 line and the owner wants to tell me it's "really fast" and he got a good deal because he pays a little less what i did w/ comcast......also, he thinks that he did good in saving like $15 or so and got a WIRED router instead of a wireless one.
He thinks that the wireless router would put be MUCH too expensive to connect the XBOX there since he would need wireless card for the XBOX.....truth is he could hook up the XBOX as he does now (wired) with the additional option of having wireless access to the router whenever he wants.
Now i can get either a 100ft ethernet cable and put it upstairs and/or get a wireless router and convince him it doesnt really matter. (I just saw someone selling a wireless dlink on craigslist for a mere $15)
I didnt like Illinois but i REALLY miss my 6000/384 cable

(And btw at my new place bellsouth is *literally* 100ft away, the house *fvcking next door*...lol...so i dont think i would have any speed problems with DSL
