OK, let me first say, that firefox is my primary browser, however i have to open certain pages in IE...

However, as stated above, when i load up ie and have it go to its first page, it says in the status bar "detecting proxy settings"...but io don't have it set up to be on a proxy...wtf is up w/ that......is ie maybe hjijacked or somin (have extensive security on this puter...)... do i just need to reset the settings to default?????

turn off firewall, see if that fixes it.
reset modem and router then restart computer. (not likely to fix hehe)
make sure auto-detect settings is on under lan settings?

guessing it's something to do with port filtering or something heh. Maybe widen up your port range?

oh and btw, I believe this thread belongs in the Tech Support forum.

In IE, go to Tools -> Internet Options, click the Connections tab and go into LAN settings. Uncheck "Automatically Detect Settings". I can't really tell with your post if you did that already, but if you did, check with your ISP to see if you have a proxy server. If you do, define it by clicking "Use a proxy server for your LAN..." and enter the appropriate entries in the fields.

If you unchecked all the boxes in that window, it should never stall for 20 seconds to detect your proxy settings.
